Smoky Lake Forest Nursery Ltd. (SLFN) has been in container forest seedling production since 1977. The nursery is one of the largest seedling production nurseries in Canada and is often referred to as the "Cadillac" of seedling nurseries. SLFN has the annual production capabilities of 10 million container seedlings and tens of millions of bareroot seedlings. The nursery was recently selected as a finalist for an Emerald Award in the small business category for environmental stewardship.
The Grower will assist with the production and growing of container and bareroot forest seedling crops, assorted deciduous and shrub species, operate computerized and other control systems, assist in training of nursery workers, keeping neat and accurate records, and maintaining nursery facilities, ensuring proper maintenance of equipment in use.
Other duties will include the supervision of staff during seeding and harvest operations, bareroot field operations, as well as playing an active role in the Health and Safety program at the nursery.
Weekend work and shift work will be necessary as required.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful individual should have at a minimum, a two-year diploma in horticulture or agriculture, or an acceptable combination of formal training and relevant experience. Applicants must hold, or be capable of obtaining, a pesticide applicator certificate and a valid AB driver's license.
