Silver Creek Nursery is seeking a responsible and motivated horticulture student to begin work on or about May 1, 2013 and continue until August 31, 2013.
Silver Creek Nursery specializes in heritage and unique fruit trees and is a small enterprise. Therefore, this summer position involves a variety of tasks such as pruning, weeding, staking and tying, budding, mowing, watering, fertilizing, labelling, record-keeping, and selling trees from the on-farm retail area. You will need to be prepared to work out-doors and be physically active. Summer is a busy time at the nursery and therefore you must commit to working approximately 40 hours per week. Occasional days off will be considered with prior notice.
Self-motivated and able to work independently without supervision
Able to work with others in a co-operative and respectful manner
Basic understanding of deciduous tree growth and pest control
Able to efficiently use a computer for communication and record-keeping
Able to safely operate farm tractors and motor vehicles
Must be interested in the nursery culture of fruit trees and have at least one year of horticultural education
Any previous horticulture of farm-related experience is an asset
Must possess valid driver's license
