POC Buyer (Current Employee), Bangalore, KAMarch 19, 2014
Pros: free lunch & lots of activites
I typical work for 10 -11 hours in a day from morning 6 to 4 or 5 sometimes. I have learned lots in ms office, business ethics, gaining ideas for improvement of team/company, learned about six-sigma and the management helps & supports individuals. Being experienced for such a long time helps in flexible working schedules and support on projects from – more... the team. – less

A great company to work for
Office Manager/Project Manager (Former Employee), Home Office Site, CroydonMarch 19, 2014
Pros: great place to work
Cons: customre site;
I started with Siemens in 2000 on a contract basis and they went permanent. I loved everything about the work and the demanding role. Training was always available and lots of team building courses. The customer was very easy to get on with and I enjoyed building a very good working relationship with the Home Office.
If they had won the contract in – more... 2004 I would still be working for them. – less

Pros: fellow employees, great to work with.
Cons: big company, still will take the bottom line over an employee.
The management seems to care more about the employees, even though the company is always watching out for the bottom line.

Working as a Cell Leader at Siemens Congleton
Cell Leader (Current Employee), CheshireMarch 7, 2014
Pros: management respect. free fruit. annual bonus. subsidised canteen.
Cons: inflexible hours, extreme pressure on occasion, office - shopfloor divide
The position offers a great variance of experience. rarely is one day the same as the other. This prevents monotony and encourages improvement. People management and identifying waste are the skills that I have learnt most visibly. There is a rather large group of Cell Leaders working across the daily three shifts and there is a natural empathy towards – more... each other which is on occasion over ridden by extreme competitiveness and mistrust. To combat this, I have suggested and helped to introduce monthly meeting to improve the communication and share frustrations as well as best practice. The hardest part of the job is to manage expectations of your team as it is difficult to plan quality time with them for development with regard to planning ahead. The remit of the position dictates that there is little to no surplus time at all to add individual flair to the role. The most enjoyable part of the job is watching your people and processes improve due in part to decisions I have made. – less

Good place to begin in the Machining Industry
3rd Shift Lead CNC Machinist (Current Employee), North East, MDMarch 1, 2014
Pros: good palce to start
Cons: no 1st shift avaiable
Siemens is a machine and welding shop. Good place to get into the welding and machining industry. I started in the weld shop and worked my way into the machine shop. Benefits package is decent and the pay is not bad. Fellow employees are helpful when you need assistance. Management can be somewhat uncertain at times but that's anywhere you go. All in – more... all not a bad place to work. – less

Great Expectations that fell short
Engineer (Former Employee), Charlotte NCFebruary 27, 2014
Pros: the college experience and subsequent experience of being a siemens engineer
Cons: disruption of what could have been for me, (selfish i know...but worked out for daughter that i'm thankful for)
Siemens did me a favor by putting me through an A.S. program at SCC, in order to go to work for them as a PBX engineer. I learned, at that time a lot about some of their PBX systems throughout the Charlotte, NC area. My immediate supervisor & I got along quite well; and I also felt that the established engineers also treated me quite fairly as an older – more... "newbie" in their "world." Having said that it was a tough time in my life, bad divorce, youngest daughter in Fl, with her mother. Her mother calling/screaming on my work phone about issues she was having with my daughter, which eventually caused my manager & Siemens hierarchy to let me break my contract to move back to Fl on my dime in hopes of smoothing ruffled feathers there. It was their understanding of what I was going thru with the family issue that impressed me most... [Side note I did end up getting full custody and she is now a Christian wife to a pilot and mother of 3 in Arkansas...I'm blessed..] – less

Large company laden with process
Consultant (Former Employee), Malvern, PAFebruary 26, 2014
Pros: big company with big budgets, have financial muscle to survive down turns.
Cons: risk adverse and not very innovative, not receptive to new ideas, over engineers most solutions
Soarian Financials is an extremely large project (with more than 300 developers). Software tends to be bloated and over engineered and getting work done is difficult with all the overhead - permissions, meetings, sign offs and required consensus. Technologist who are looking for the cutting edge will not find it here as most of the technologies used – more... are over 10 years old. Agile process is more window dressing over a water fall methodology. Management is somewhat inflexible and follows a strict hierarchy which makes accomplishments and success difficult. Very risk adverse at times which hinders or squelches innovations. – less
