Respectful and very organized place to start your career with.
Pharmacy Intern (Former Employee), Vancouver, BC – March 11, 2014
Pros: good staff
Cons: the place is not so busy
I had my internship at SDM in East Vancouver. The place wasn't so busy all the time and this was a good chance fro me to get learn how is everything going in the pharmacy. I worked on the filling station and the pick-up station.
Shipper & Receiver, Cashier and Merchandiser (Former Employee), Milton, ON – October 27, 2013
I learned a great deal about customer service, new methods of cash transactions and how to set up the store from the ground up made future merchandising and familiarity with products much easier. I also enjoyed a promotion to shipper and receiver that was fast paced and challenging. I thoroughly enjoyed the daily demands and put my organizational skills – more... and boundless energy to use. – less
Great learning experience, but too traditional for my taste
Marketing Coordinator (Former Employee), Toronto, ON – October 23, 2013
Pros: great coworkers, plenty of health benefits, supportive managers
Cons: long hours, traditional vertical structure, resistant to change, terrible work/life balance
I found the employees working at Shoppers to be very good people and incredibly hard working. My direct managers were very supportive and open to mentoring. Salary levels were fair and there were a great number of health benefits for full time employees. I was given plenty of chances to develop new skills while working at this organization.
However, – more... I did find the organization to be very traditional and resistant to change. The organizational structure there was incredibly vertical with an unnecessary excessive amount of delegation from some managers to their subordinates (not all). Also employees are expected (but not forced) to put in very long hours, beyond what would be considered normal in my opinion.
Overall I think Shoppers is a good place to work, but the organizational culture and less than ideal work/life balance of the company does not appeal to me when considering a long-term employment location.
This is my honest and balanced assessment of my time at Shoppers Drug Mart. – less
Great environment to work in the co-workers are all very nice and intelligent.
Front Cashier/Customer Service (Current Employee), Burlington, ON – October 18, 2013
Pros: you get a discount in any shoppers
Cons: dealing with angry people
Everyday at work I am responsible to get certain things done on certain days. For example; on a Monday afternoon shift after I have gotten onto a cash and put my till in I am responsible to check the lottery clean off all the other cash registers and the floors, make sure all the returns get put into a basket so a supervisor can put them away, and put – more... away all the new stock that has been shipped to the store. The most important thing that I learned from this job would be that dealing with people/customers on a daily basis is the kind of career that I would be looking towards in the future. The management of the store is very good I did not have much interaction with management the only interaction was with my supervisor and sometimes the store manager if he/she needed assistance with something. The co-workers at Shoppers were amazing it was like a family we were all friendly and it was a very happy environment. I would say the hardest part of the job would be trying to not take the mean and grumpy customers comments personally. If they are mean to you they probably just had a rough day and needed to let it out onto someone and unfortunately that person can be me. The most enjoyable part of my job would be talking to a variety of different people and getting the customers who have had a very good day who want to share their happiness with everyone they meet. – less

Cons: heavy work
Stocking shelves , learning prices and products placement . Co-worker are great to work with . The hardest part of my job was to keep the store safe . The management did not want to go by code re: fire doors. The most enjoyable part of the job was the people .
Merchandising (Former Employee), Brampton, ON – October 9, 2013
Pros: discount shopping
Cons: raging customers
Some days it gets really busy. I learned a lot about customer service and where everything goes making it a clean and well organized environment. Your co-workers are amazing, when they aren't already annoyed by the customers, I guess thats just about the hardest part of the job. The most enjoyable part is making others happy, granting what they desired – more... :) – less
Cosmetician (Former Employee), Burlington, ON – October 2, 2013
Pros: great employee discount, great coworkers
Cons: a lot of standing
The cosmetics department at Shoppers Drug Mart is a fantastic place to work! The people who work in the department are usually energetic and love to help the customers who come in. The hardest part of the job, i would say is convincing customers to join a client file to receive promotional information, even though our requirement was to have 3 or 4 – more... client file sign ups per shift. The most enjoyable part of the job was going through the makeup during down time, or doing a foundation match-up on a customer. The management was OK considering there was a lot of responsibilities for her, she seemed to be altogether and had her priorities straight. I would love to work for Shoppers again, I enjoyed the job. – less
