Food Manager (Former Employee), Markham, ON – July 21, 2014
Pros: ability to switch shifts if needed to fit in home life
Cons: not always enough staff to get jobs completed on time
I worked an 8 hour day with breaks fitting around activities happening at the store. I learned many things about keeping track of inventory and ordering product both through sales rep and through automatic ordering over the instore web.The management was fair and treated everyone in the store as an equal weather pert time or full time which was respected – more... by most of the employees. The hardest part of the job was trying to fit an order of 20 skids into an area that held only 14 skids while still trying to follow company standards. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to help a customer get the products they needed when they were unable to find them or to special order specific items in order to help someone out. – less

Nice well-intentioned people, chaotic and backward environment
Senior Project Manager (Current Employee), Central Office – April 17, 2014
Pros: good compensation
Cons: unrealistic expectations from management
Central office for Shoppers Drug Mart is an interesting culture. It is a chaotic environment suffering the pain of continual and dynamic change. Management are somewhat paternalistic and chauvinistic and expect to brutally manage their employee's interests for them. Most employees are pleasant, interested in moving forward and achieving success, and – more... pleased to get the job done. However, in some areas work-life balance is non-existant: management expectations are completely unrealistic and their employees try to meet them anyway. The hardest part of the job is to have no control over my area of expertise. The most enjoyable part of the job is my co-workers. – less
Cosmetician (Former Employee), Toronto, Ontario – April 13, 2014
Pros: employee discounts and incentives
Cons: occasional lack of staffing
I have worked at a few different Shoppers Drug Marts since 2007. There is a comfort level when working at Shoppers Drug Mart. There is job security and the standards are consistent at every location I have worked at. I have built relationships with co-workers at each location. I highly enjoyed the encouragement to grow within the company and advancements.
I worked in a few sections therefore my tasks varied. Customer service and dealing with transactions at the cash register were typical in all different sections of the store. I learned many things working in the pharmacy and cosmetics. In the pharmacy, I learned how to prioritize work as there were many concurrent tasks assigned at once, also I learned – more... about different medications and their uses. In cosmetics, I was taught how to recommend products that suited individuals needs by using my knowledge on different products and the benefits they have to different skin types. I also learned to work under a sales system as there were specific sales targets assigned to us each day. – less

I am always willing to gain more knowledge to increase my skills and experiences. I work quickly and efficiently to meet customers' needs. I look forward to a long term employment with any company who is willing to hire me as – more... a dedicated employee. – less
