Reporting to the Store Manager, is accountable for managing the delicatessen department and other areas of the store as required in accordance with the company’s overall strategic direction and banner’s market positioning. Demonstrates leadership excellence by fostering and promoting an environment that is focused on PSP – People, Service and Profit.
Communicates and promotes a vision of service culture that is aligned with the banner’s strategic direction, enhances the customer’s shopping experience and improves the store’s image within the community.
Monitors customer service within area of jurisdiction on a regular basis and ensures that standards are communicated, achieved and maintained. Analyzes service results (e.g. customer survey results, comment cards, complaints, etc.) for area of jurisdiction and implements timely measures to enhance customer satisfaction. Ensures prompt and appropriate response to customer complaints within area of jurisdiction.
Ensures that all operations within area of jurisdiction conform with business plan and budget.
Ensures that in-store inventories within area of jurisdiction are managed effectively with a focus on achieving established service levels and key performance indicators (e.g. shrink, “just-in-time ordering”, etc.). Ensures that proper and timely ordering procedures are implemented, monitored and maintained. Sources new products effectively per customer requests. Ensures proper treatment of perishable and date-sensitive products in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
Anticipates and responds expediently to industry trends in products within area of jurisdiction, in consultation with the Store Manager.
Ensures within area of jurisdiction that proper pricing and price changing procedures are implemented, monitored and maintained.
Ensures effective in-store and external advertising and merchandising of products, including internal display, within area of jurisdiction. Negotiates with suppliers for advertising monies and deal pricing.
Exercises final decision-making authority for hiring, promoting and disciplining, including discharging, bargaining unit employees within area of jurisdiction, in consultation with the Store Manager.
Assigns work to bargaining unit employees within area of jurisdiction and ensures its successful completion on a service and cost effective basis.
Ensures compliance by bargaining unit employees within area of jurisdiction with all company policies and procedures and legal requirements. Ensures conformance with the company dress code.
Ensures effective day-to-day administration of the company’s attendance and performance management programs for bargaining unit employees within area of jurisdiction.
Undertakes scheduling of all bargaining unit employees within area of jurisdiction on a service and cost effective basis.
Ensures effective delivery of appropriate training and development programs and opportunities for bargaining unit employees within area of jurisdiction. Acts as a coach and mentor and creates an environment where people are inspired to succeed.
Enhances labour peace by ensuring company compliance with applicable collective agreements and their effective administration on a day-to-day basis within area of jurisdiction. Maximizes partnering opportunities with key stakeholders (e.g. shop stewards, bargaining unit employees) to pro-actively resolve issues and to minimize grievance/arbitration costs. Represents the company as the first contact level for grievances by bargaining unit employees within area of jurisdiction. Represents the company at labour/management meetings including grievances and collective bargaining, as necessary.
Ensures that all machinery, tools and other equipment and work-related materials required within area of jurisdiction are readily available and fully functional.
Ensures within area of jurisdiction that effective housekeeping, hygiene and health and safety measures are implemented, monitored and maintained to promote customer satisfaction and compliance with applicable law.
Ensures that effective security measures are implemented, monitored and maintained within area of jurisdiction, in consultation with the Store Manager.
Partners with key stakeholders (e.g. merchandising) and store management team to solicit expertise, explore opportunities and to ensure the effective implementation of merchandising/operational initiatives.
Replaces management personnel below the level of Store Manager on a temporary basis, as required.
