Account Manager (Former Employee) – Ferndale, MI – 29 March 2017
You'll work with some amazing and intelligent people in the lower ranks. But it's a difficult place to advance in. There's really no structure for it. No reviews. No career path. Less then average pay. And the management seems to view the employees more as replaceable then valued assets. And as they expand they are constantly shifting who does what, who gets paid what, who stays and who goes.
If you're just getting your start in digital marketing get a job here. Learn everything you can. And leave.
Web Developer (Former Employee) – Ferndale, MI – 10 December 2014
At Search Optics the compensation was decent. Single medical insurance coverage is paid completely by the company. They try to make the work place fun and inviting and for the most part they succeed in that effort.
As far as development and tech goes, its an afterthought. There is a very "whatever works so we can get clients" mentality there. While that is not necessarily a bad thing if you are a developer that enjoys the challenge of making innovative solutions to customer problems and enjoy owning that process then I would think twice. If you just need a place to stay for a bit then Search Optics is just fine.
Social Gatherings, single person insurance benefits
Little to no forethought into tech and developement, churn & burn shop
Digital Solutions Specialist (Former Employee) – Ferndale, MI – 9 November 2014
Growing company that is trying to unsuccessfully maintain a small company feel. Training was subpar. Turnover for sales reps was over 80% while I was there. Commission is low and no residuals for retaining a massive amount of clients in queue.
Technology Department (Current Employee) – San Diego, CA – 7 March 2014
I work in the Technology Department, which is one of the core operations in the company, the other being Marketing Services. We work on interesting, different tasks, using best practices as much as possible. We do have legacy code to deal with, but who doesn't, if they have been around long enough. We do have remote team members (in our Detroit office), and it can be difficult to keep everyone on the same page. These challenges can be easily overcome, with good management, and lots of communication. No job is perfect. Search Optics has a lot of people that really have good intentions to do the right thing, for the company, and for the employees, and for the clients. This is a good thing. I love working on the same team as these people.
Company outings, snacks, drinks, casual business environment, great people to work with, great work to do
Lack of professional language (profanity), lack of transparency (top down)
Human Resources (Current Employee) – Ferndale, MI – 9 August 2013
As a new employee (2 months) I have to say I am most impressed! The vibe in the Ferndale office is noticeable as soon as you walk in. The people here are terrific and the fast pace of work creates an exciting energy. It's exactly what I hoped it would be.
There are many changes happening as a result of the company's growth and I know that means I'll be able to grow in my career. I'm excited to be part of the team and I would have no issue recommending this employer to friends and family.
Great location (Ferndale), nice building, really smart people
