Sales and Marketing Manager

POSITION SUMMARY
The Sales & Marketing Manager is responsible for generating revenue in order to meet or exceed budget expectations. Works closely with the General Manager, Corporate Director of Sales and Revenue Strategy and Corporate Director of Marketing and Media Strategy to develop an effective marketing plan and direct the sales effort as described in the marketing plan. Plans and administers sales and marketing policies and programs to foster and promote hotel patronage.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct all sales and marketing initiatives for the hotel, ensuring that the strategic planning process is integrated into the day to day operations of the department
  • Personally conduct sales calls, develop accounts and establish and maintains relationships with key corporate, government and travel agencies
  • Direct the activities of outside agencies and internal staff to maximize local, key feeder market and in house advertising campaigns
  • Co-ordinate and conduct periodic competitive pricing reviews
  • Engage with regional tourism organizations to ensure the hotel maximizes the benefit from such organizations, while helping to steer activities to the full benefit of the property
  • Provide professional leadership to the Sales and Catering team with a strong focus on achieving budgeted revenues
  • Develops and maintains marketing plan and sales budget
  • Maintains all sales systems including sales records and reports, conference calendar, trace history and potentials, logs of groups not previously accommodated and mailing lists
  • Provides sales training to hotel staff as appropriate
  • Establishes and maintains locally negotiated rates to maximize revenue and market share
  • Sells meeting space and group blocks of rooms to prospective clients
  • Assists in creation, planning and organizing in house promotional efforts of the hotel
  • Work with corporate sales initiatives; participation in trade shows
  • Participate in weekly strategy meetings
  • Monitor hotel's website ensuring constant fresh, vibrant, current and accurate content
  • Manage social media avenues to maximize our exposure with creative postings/advertising
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SKILLS/EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • Degree in Business or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of three years of sales experience and/or hospitality sales preferred
  • Excellent leadership skills and strong revenue management skills
  • Must be innovative and self-motivated
  • Must be able to work independently and have the drive to succeed
  • Outstanding communication and organization skills
  • Must maintain a high level of professional appearance and demeanor
  • Must have a current driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record and use of a vehicle which is insured and maintained in good condition
  • Some travel may be required
