Position Thrift Store Manager - Temporary Position

Directly supervise a minimum of 1 employee and 10 volunteers.
Determine and distribute work assignments to employees and volunteers.
Hire, orientate, train, evaluate, discipline, and terminate in concert with Territorial/National standards.
Manage health/safety, employee relations, and other related issues at a store level.
Supervise as well as participate in sorting and tagging merchandise, loading and unloading delivery trucks, stocking shelves and performing cash transactions.
Plans store layout to attract customers, including window displays and merchandise displays, decides on in-store promotions and auctions.
Maintain a high level of customer service and create an attractive environment for customers.
Determine and maintain appropriate stock levels based on spot checks of the store and reviewing weekly sales records.
Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of the store is up to standard policy.
Maintain control of inventory by ensuring that all merchandise is priced appropriately; control inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring.
Ensure in-store safety of staff, volunteers and customers, i.e. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, clean spillage; ensure that the property (store) is secured at all times.
Establish and manage in-store budget within guidelines; execute budget objectives by attaining sales margins, maintaining staff cost ratios; profit objectives as established by the region; ensure that banking is completed nightly or as per store policy into the appropriate financial institution.
Analyze store financial statements; strategizes appropriate action to attain financial goals, monitor cost of goods.
Prepare financial and other reports as required by the Corps Officer.
Perform other position related duties as required.

Completion of High School, some College vocational or technical training, marketing, and retail background preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience in retail, specifically in second hand merchandise preferred.
Strong oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated and disciplined.
Strong leadership skills.
Ability to develop and maintain a team environment.
Provide an original copy of a Criminal Records Check (CRC) with vulnerable sector screening secured through either the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment; Note: A satisfactory criminal background check is required.
Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Support for and commitment to the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Job Grade 8
Term $12.71 per hour, temporary full time, 28 hours per week
Hours 9:00 am to 5:00 pm – Tuesday to Friday includes 1 hour unpaid meal break.

Additional Information
Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required.This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods, and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 28 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount.
