Safeway
Clerk (Former Employee), Dawson Creek, BCSeptember 22, 2014
Pros: carts
Cons: too many thing to, sometime little time
I management well, I have to trained new workers and open/close the doors. My typical day at work, is the focus of work, I clock in, I did what they asked me which was, putting item back on the self, if a person ask where "cheese was?" I would say "In the dairy self." Other jobs were including going outside, getting carts from their racks and do it – more... quickly as possible. The hardest part was, training new worker because I'm not very social person, so the term of talking, I had trouble but I like working as a team when I needed to. My co-worker, always knew I would help or I would say "I will be back, I just need to do this first." The most enjoyed part was closing, because I had time to put stuff away, clean the check-out stands, the night were cooler, and seeing night owls. – less

Safeway was a wonderful place to work with many challenges daily.
Acting Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Kenora, ONSeptember 15, 2014
Pros: my hours were quite flexible which was a bonus when appointments or such arose.
Cons: very long hours, lots of heavy lifting and very physical
Safeway was a Family, we all respected each other and the jobs that each of us did. As part of the Management team I was fortunate enough to be able to be a part of the entire store and have a connection with all employees and learn the aspects of each job there. The hardest part of my job was having to discipline staff as situations occurred. The best – more... part of my job was the satisfaction that I got at the end of the day knowing that my hard work was noticed and appreciated and that it made a difference to the company. – less

Wonderful to work for a company that cares about customers as much as I do.
Cashier/Retail Clerk (Former Employee), Winnipeg, MBSeptember 11, 2014
Pros: a very happy place to work
Cons: not being able to regulate my weekly hours---ranged from 8 hrs to 30 hrs
I would come in early, just in case I was needed... then then best part would be when my customers would start coming into my line so that I could start making their day as bright and wonderful as I could. I LOVE MY CUSTOMERS!! It made the day go so fast cause the best part was each and every customer that came into my line.

I was the friendly cashier everyone stood in line to checkout with
Cashier (Former Employee), Burnaby, BCSeptember 10, 2014
Pros: seeing familiar faces all day long, and the pay was a great bonus!
Cons: sore back, tendonitis, sore legs
Helped people checkout their groceries in a fast, friendly fun manner.
Helped them with getting extra airmiles when they weren't informed about special promotions. Had to memorize over 100 4-digit produce codes, and managed well! Co-workers knew to ask me the codes when in doubt. Thanked every customer by last name and offered them help to carry groceries – more... to the car. I grew up in the area, and knew everyone. Today, I still shop there and get along well with all employees and customers. – less

Productive and Fun Workplace
Seasonal Gift Card Clerk (Former Employee), Calgary, ABSeptember 9, 2014
Typical day consists of receiving orders by email, phone and fax. Filling out the orders. Sending them out. Updating Client Information and adding new clients to the list.

I learned lots about life in an Office Setting. Steady paced Environment with a sense of fulfillment.

Management was excellent in keeping us goal oriented and changing the days – more... up with a variety of tasks

Co-workers were always cheerful and looking forward to another good day of work.

I did not find a hard part to this job.

The most enjoyable part of the job was when all orders were done by the end of our shift. – less

Good Boss, poor managment, even worse crew
Cashier (Former Employee), Taber, ABAugust 26, 2014
Pros: a job, customers
Cons: long hours, management, scheduling
Everything was based on seniority, so you go to work everyday hoping someone new is hired so you`re not the lowest on the food chain.
When young people are given the power of supervision it can quickly go to there head. Also when management does not get checked up on it too quickly goes to there head.
Hardest part of the job was the hours, and standing – more... on your feet all day, as a student they over work you, a lot!
Most enjoyable part, customers that come in and express how they know how the cashiers feel on day to day, dealing with customers, and other staff. – less

Productive, friendly, and quiet workplace.
Cake Decorator & Production Assistant (Former Employee), Airdrie, ABAugust 7, 2014
A typical day at work in the bakery started quite early, I learned a lot more about professional baking; especially in how to use the equipment. This was very informative and pretty fun. My department manager was excellent! My co-workers were enjoyable to work with as they kept up a lively and funny banter. We were all able to join in or listen as we – more... work; this is one of the best parts of life and jobs; is the people you meet. The hardest part of the job for me was to start so early in the morning. This meant your day actually started at least a minimum of an hour before you actually start work. – less

Pharmacy had a great team to work with
Pharmacy Technician (Former Employee), Lethbridge, ABAugust 7, 2014
The team of people I worked with at Safeway were excellent. We had little to no problems dividing up work to conquer it as individuals when needed or coming to together to get it done. The management in the Pharmacy was good at delegating tasks when needed and allowing us room to work. We filled an average of 100-150 prescriptions a day and had an extensive – more... list of bubble pack patients. The hardest part of the job was balancing phone calls, prescription filling and patient interaction when it was busy or we were short staffed, but this is where we really came together and cooperated. The most enjoyable part of the job for me was the interactions with some of the regulars that you build up a relationship with and entering/filling prescriptions. – less

Over all
Gas Station Clerk (Former Employee), Edmonton, ABJuly 25, 2014
Pros: great breaks, i lived right across the street from work
Cons: i sometimes didn't have enough hours
Every Day Was Different Which Applies To Me Because I Love Meeting New People And The Typical Usual Customers That Arrived And Bonding With Them. I Have Learned Tolerance Towards Customers That Was Unsure Of What The Card Meant Or How Much Gas They Have Put In, Or Their Scratch Cards Were Overly Scratched, So I Called The Scratch & Win Card Company – more... To Assist The Problem. Management Was Great, Both My Managers Made Things Quick And Easy To Remember As Well As Bonding With Them. My Co-Workers Always Knew What They Were Doing, They Had Great Energy Towards The Customers As Well As Towards Me. The Hardest Part Would Have To Be The Weather, It Was Too Cold Some Days. I Enjoyed Every Part Of It. – less

A busy environment with a tv in the lunchroom
Order Assembler (Current Employee), Edmonton, ABJuly 20, 2014
Pros: safety incentives, co-workers
Cons: management
I am a flexible member of the workforce. Depending on the shift I am working for the week I either assemble orders and am required to meet picking standards of 100%; forklifting on days I make sure product is available for the assemblers and on nights I must accurately put product away; loading trailers where I must make sure all product is accurately – more... and safely loaded for each store on appropriate trailers then dispatch; independent shipper where I assemble orders for independent accounts and load on appropriate trailers by certain deadlines; night time receiver where I unload trailers, tag pallets of product that meet the standards for Safeway for the forklift to putaway and take care of paperwork. There is a lot more to each of these job duties and you may contact me if you have further questions.
I have learned that the more you learn is essential to new opportunities.
My co-workers are generally great and are the reason why my job is enjoyable.
The hardest part of my job is assembling as it is very physically demanding. – less
