Qualifications: Must possess a Diploma or Degree in Recreation Therapy and 2+ years supervisory experience and active registration with ATRA. Experience working in a long term care setting is an asset. Proven leadership ability and strong supervisory skills are needed. Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, documentation, and computer skills. Must have an enthusiastic, compassionate and caring attitude.
Description: The primary purpose of the Recreation Therapist is to facilitate and promote therapeutic recreation programs and activities that support and enhance the quality of life for residents in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility.
Duties/Responsibilities: Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a balance of therapeutic recreation programs based on resident needs. Plan monthly events calendar, special events, and community outings. Provide direction and supervision to Recreation Aides, while overseeing the overall operation of the Recreation Department. Coordinate and manage the Volunteer Department, including the screening, interviewing, supervision and ongoing education of volunteers. Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations. Prepare admission, quarterly, and annual resident assessments using MDS program, and regularly chart resident progress. Attend and participate in all multi-disciplinary and family conferences. Record all expenses and be accountable for the overall Recreation Department Budget.
