The Neighbourlink Fountain is seeking someone to conduct a Community Kitchen Pilot Program for the Arnprior area. The project will establish the community’s interest in nutrition and cooking classes and empower individuals with new or renewed interest in healthy eating habits to make life changes. The project consists of 5 parts: research, establishing space, planning classes, implementing project and assessing outcome.
Research: models of community kitchens, health and safety issues, municipality requirements, available community partnerships
Facilitate the setting up of the kitchen; organizing space, health and safety, equipment, etc.
Develop course materials suitable for working with seniors, families, parents/children, singles and special dietary restrictions
Organize and coordinate trial sessions of nutrition classes
Organize and facilitate ‘how to cook’ classes and meal preparation
Establish menus and budgets for trial class sessions
Develop advertising and promotion strategies
Assess project outcomes and provide recommendations
Must meet EI eligibility as noted below
Certified Dietician or Nutritionist is preferred but will consider related experience
Safe Food Handling Certificate is preferred
Clear criminal reference check (must be provided)
Knowledge of nutrition/healthy eating habits and making healthy food choices
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with the community
Ability to teach others and facilitate classes
Strong ability to research and compile information
Organizational skills to develop strategies, course materials and plan, implement and assess programs
Tried and true healthy recipes or ability to create
This is a government funded program and in order to be eligible to participate:
Candidates MUST be unemployed or working less than 20 hrs/wk
Must have been in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits in the last 3 years or 5 years if on maternity/parental leave
Position is temporary – 6 month program
Current EI benefit rate if currently in receipt or $423/wk if benefits are no longer active.
