Software Tools Specialist (Former Employee), Halifax, Nova Scotia – December 17, 2012
I quite enjoyed my experience at Research In Motion.

A typical day consisted of providing software support to internal RIM staff. Our team (Software Tools & Systems) was responsible for maintaining many software packages: Atlassian Confluence & JIRA, Perforce, Code Collaborator, MS Project, among others.

Good place to work for in general with low stability lately
Manager, HW quality programs (HW PMO manager) (Former Employee), Waterloo – November 28, 2012
Good place to work for in general with low stability lately because what is going on.
I have learned a lot form this company in the field of the R&D. the coworkers was so enjoyable to work with as well as the manager who was the director of the team. The most enjoyable about my job was the challenging part of it everyday something new.

If you like politics, irrational management and departmental infighting ..this is the place for you.
Operations (Former Employee), Waterloo – November 12, 2012
Pros: people
Cons: management
I looked at all the positive reviews and wonder if these other people worked at the same company? While gaining a lot of experience there I don't think I would ever go back.

So many people laid off recently to "save" money, while a great deal of hiring continues. Potentially ruining lives to look good in the media. Not my idea of a company who values – more... it's people.

The problem with having a revolutionary product is that everything looks great on the outside while there is chaos on the inside. When the product isn't revolutionary anymore all you have left is the chaos and hence the downward spiral. Duplication, mismanagement, poor and inconsistent leadership, and disregard for long term benefits over short term gains are not new to this company. – less

I was doing okay for a while.
Electronic Assembler (Former Employee), Waterloo, ON – October 18, 2012
Pros: tried to maintain a positive work environment, excellent benefits, good wage
Cons: no room for advancement, management was mediocre at best, there was tension before people were let go, most training material we had to review during down time did not for our department or was out-dated
I was hired as an electronic assembler. My job spanned both assembly as well as quality control. I had learned to build several different Blackberry products during my time there. My co-workers were fairly decent on the whole, a rare few were exceptional. The hardest part of my job was usually when they ran out of production for us to work on. However, – more... I did enjoy the work, when it was available. – less
