Description: Each summer, the Canadian Cadet Organizations provides selected youth aged 12 to 18 with the opportunity to attend Cadet Summer Training Centres throughout Canada. Cadets attend courses that vary from 2 to 6 weeks in length and are involved an wide range of challenging and rewarding activities designed to teach valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship. The Summer Training Centres are staffed by members of the Canadian Forces, Public Servants, and contractors who are all dedicated to providing the best summer experience possible to all the cadets who attend. Duties: The Youth Counsellor will work as part of an interdisciplinary team providing short term, solution focused support to youth ages 12-18 years. The Counsellor will also provide advise to the adult staff on youth development challenges and strategies used by educators and other youth care professionals. Confidential and professional communication with the Commanding Officer of the Training Centre, onsite health care providers, and the Chaplain is required in addition to maintaining appropriate case documentation.


The successful applicant will be a graduate of a recognized post secondary program such as Social Work, Education, or Nursing and must have knowledge of and/or experience with:
Short term intervention and counselling skills;
Home sickness and separation anxiety;
Crisis intervention and / or suicide intervention skills;
Adolescent behaviour and development;
Community resources and referrals; and
The Privacy Act, Access to Information Act, Canadian Human Rights Act, Canadian Mental Health Act, Provincial Child Protection Legislation.

Must hold an appropriate license to practice in the jurisdiction they will be working in.
