Description: Each summer, the Canadian Cadet Organizations provides selected youth aged 12 to 18 with the opportunity to attend Cadet Summer Training Centres throughout Canada. Cadets attend courses that vary from 2 to 6 weeks in length and are involved an wide range of challenging and rewarding activities designed to teach valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship. The Summer Training Centres are staffed by members of the Canadian Forces, Public Servants, and contractors who are all dedicated to providing the best summer experience possible to all the cadets who attend. Duties: The position is a junior communications management level- Unit Public Affairs Representative (UPAR)- where he/she is an integral member of the summer training centre team and will lead the public relations activities. The UPAR will respond directly to the Commanding Officer of the Cadet Summer Training Centre and however respond to the Department Head- Public Affairs to coordinate all internal and external written materials. The UPAR will leverage communication opportunities to its internal and external publics, manage and canvass media coverage and manage the Summer Training Centre internet and social media platforms. This person will identify the best way to communicate with the many internal and external stakeholders, such as the parents of the cadets, liaise with a range of media outlets, researching special topics and managing its web-based social media platforms.


The successful candidate will be currently engaged in or recently graduated from a program in creative communications or journalism. The applicant must have relevant tertiary qualifications and strong written skills, with experience in producing a range of editorial material. As much of the products are also imagery-based, the candidate would have a strong background in still imagery. Experience in dealing with the media would be an asset. Core competencies will include:

Newsletter layout (using InDesign or similar platform)
