Job Summary
At Red Associates Engineering Ltd., we have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects allowing you to develop a diverse skill set. The function of the certification engineer is primarily a role that leads the problem resolution process when inspections reveal structural concerns outside of the standard solutions. This position has a focus on analyzing, attention to detail and problem resolution.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead problem resolution on site with customers when damage to crane and lifting equipment is beyond standard solutions
  • Certify crane equipment after a complete accident review is done and proper repair has been completed
  • Assist field inspectors with evaluation and repair procedure recommendations as required
  • Responsible for making sure projects are completed in accordance with relevant codes, standards and procedures
  • Accountable for certification of inspected equipment or related engineering inspection services in a timely manner
  • Review field inspection report documents for accuracy and verify they are in compliance with company report templates
  • Create plans in accordance with applicable codes in correspondence with standards relevant to design specification
  • Maintain effective customer relations through service quality and timeliness of inspection services by addressing customer concerns and involving management as required
  • Work with customers to develop repair procedures for restoring damaged equipment
  • Accountable for the maintenance of assigned vehicle & equipment
  • Perform crane inspection and engineering certification
  • Witness stability testing of cranes
  • Prepare formal engineering plans, drawings and procedures documentation as required by customers

Requirements

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability to work off site from the Edmonton office with occasional long distance travel
  • Clean drivers abstract
  • Fluent in both verbal and written English
  • In depth knowledge of certification requirements for cranes and rigging equipment

Skills and Abilities

  • Drafting and FEA skills would be an asset
  • Knowledge of steels and welding process
  • Skilled in problem solving
  • Successful in working independently as well as in a team environment

Education and Certification requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Materials, Metallurgical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • Candidate must be registered or eligible for registration as an EIT or PEng with APEGA
  • Valid driver’s license is required
