Provides technical direction for all aspects of product information development for systems or products. (i.e. research, writing, presentation and graphic concepts, technical editing, testing, and production). Edits product documentation.
Compiles source material and specifications required to develop software documentation for users which may include manuals, on-line help, or multi-media tutorials.
Establishes ease-of-use objectives, presentation and graphic concepts, terminology and style standards, or testing criteria for assigned information products.
Selects the media, presentation, and information preparation techniques for developing the project. Recommends changes to improve usability, productivity, and quality.
Plans and develops procedures for testing and evaluating accuracy and usability tests. Coordinates and conducts information product testing.
Recommends and develops the quality measures, and accuracy and usability tests for a set of information products by analysing past information product successes and/or failures.
Contributes to definition of standards for documentation produced to ensure that the content of documentation meets the requirements of the user; for instance, that all Release Notes clearly outline changes in functionality or technical requirements of the application.
Communicates standards to content writers and consults as needed to clarify requirements.
Coordinates with content experts preparing technical documentation and technical writers producing user documentation to track flow of documentation and address any issues.
Reviews all technical documentation for completeness, appropriateness of content, consistency with documentation standards.
Designs and implements a library or cataloguing system to manage the filing, storage and retrieval of documentation; catalogues documentation produced, ensuring proper version control.
Establishes document control procedures for receiving, tracking and releasing documentation.
Maintains current knowledge of software tools relevant to documentation; including graphics and publishing applications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
University degree or equivalent in experience in Technical Writing
Minimum 6 to 8 years experience in software documentation, along with minimum 2 years supervisory experience
Fluency in English and French: spoken & written
Technical competence in the assigned area, i.e. software development and programming languages: FrameMaker, Captivate, RoboHelp, MS Office, etc
