Prodigy (formerly SMARTeacher) is a Canadian EdTech start-up that’s been featured on The Discovery Channel’s The Daily Planet, BNN’s The Pitch, and has even pitched to the Dragons on Dragon’s Den! Why the interest?
At Prodigy, we’re creating the world’s first education game that can automatically adapt based on a child’s emotions. Although the emotion-sensing technology will not be ready until later this year, that hasn’t stopped our team from quadrupling our game’s user base to over 18,000 students in only a few short months. Children love the game so much that students are playing for over an hour per week at home! For more information on the game (and a chance to brush up on your elementary math), please visit www.ProdigyGame.com.
As our game continues its explosive growth, we need a team member that can completely overhaul our infrastructure and prepare our game, website, and reporting features to handle over 1,000,000 students. You will have complete control over this process, but will work alongside a fantastic team as we design an education game that parents, teachers, and students love.
In addition to backend development, you will be involved in the redesign of the website’s payment system and the creation of all the game’s web services. Although the web services required for the game are currently simple, our team will be adding features such as Player-vs-Player (PvP) and real-time interaction between users as we transition the program to be a true MMORPG.

SMARTeacher has grown from 3 to 8 employees in the last year and raised a half million dollars in grants and initial investment. You’ll be joining a company that won’t stay small long, and we’ll be actively working to retain our best and brightest as we grow through financial incentives and job perks.
Be the big fish:
We pride ourselves on creating an environment where good ideas win, period. If you have a fantastic idea, it’s typical to see it in our program within 6 weeks. Talk about having an impact.
There’s a reason we chose to work in elementary education: our students need help, and we’re making sure they get it. We’re already seeing fantastic results with our students and we’re working with leading researchers across Canada to help transform our education system.
