Position Summary:

Location: Summerland, BC

This permanent full time position is responsible for the preparation and documentation of accurate cost estimates and competitive tenders that result in profitable construction projects.

Essential Job Functions (day to day responsibilities):

Bid administration:

Analyze drawings, technical specifications, and other bidding documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates

Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops

Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues

Confer with engineers, owners, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates

Prepare estimates for planning, organizing, and scheduling work, selecting vendors or subcontractors

Review material and labor requirements, to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components

Enter all relevant information into Accubid Bidwinner

Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors

Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures

Establish and maintain tendering process

Project turnover

Properly turns over bid documents and sub buyout information to Project Management in a timely manner. Goal is 100% of awarded projects turned over within 24 hours of notification

Review drawings with Project Management team and highlight areas of concern

Review job cost with Project Management team and highlight any subs/material vendors that still need to be awarded

Complete project kick-off form to ensure compliance
Operate as One Team

  • Build strong win-win relationships with other departments within organization, including project

management, construction management, business development, and accounting.

Essential Requirements:


Electrical Engineer and/or Journeyman Electrician

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Some business acumen

Accubid estimating software

Ability to analyze information and inform others about requirements

Great attention to detail

Skill in reading and interpreting plans and specifications

Skill in both verbal and written communication

Proficient in Microsoft Office, knowledge of MS Project and

Primavera is an asset

Willingness to learn new software and estimating tools


Must be a Journeyman electrician and/or Electrical engineer.

Must have 5-10 years experience in electrical construction.

Strong knowledge of industry fundamentals and construction practices an asset.

Must have the ability to effectively manage and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

It is expected for you to have an understanding of Accubid estimating software, pervious success bidding on industrial or commercial project and the drive to work autonomously and help build a team around you.

The role is an outstanding opportunity for an Estimator with a strong network to utilize these connections and assist with company growth. You will be responsible to the division manager and take ownership of the bid process. This includes tender acquisition, client liaison, and bid negotiation through to project completion.

Job Location:

Summerland/Penticton – with minimal travel outside province
