I was very productive and pulled out the tastles off the top of corn stocks.
Corn Detastling (Former Employee), Chatham Kent – January 14, 2013
Pros: i got to work hard, be outside and listen to music
Cons: only lasted one month
Every day from Monday-Saturday in my Summer break from school I would wake up early, catch a bus in Sarnia, to a field in Chatham and work in mud, spider webs, rain and in corn fields. I learned that corn pollinates into other corn stocks that don't have a tastle and makes corn bigger and juicier. Over all, I enjoyed that job, I didn't mind working – more... in the mud and rain. I made it every day and achieved the big bonus of 75 cents on every hour worked worked bonus. – less

Brand Ambassador (Former Employee), Culver City, CA – June 5, 2013
Pros: exciting road shows and campaigns
Cons: on call 24/7
A typical day would start at 7am in the office and we would participate in a manager training program, After we would all disperse to our assigned fields and begin marketing our roadshows/campaigns We where taught to become self reliant and to set goals each day. I enjoyed all aspects of my job, it allowed me to think for myself and gave me the confidence – more... I needed to be able advance in the business world. . – less

Hard work
Detasseling (Former Employee), Dysart, IA – May 22, 2013
Pros: working with other team members
Cons: no benifits, seasonal, working in early morning in cold, wet, feild until hot, dry, afternoon.
In the early mornings i would wake up, make lunch and put it in a cooler and walk down to work and my day would begin. There me, and maybe a hundred other workers waited for the time to get on the bus and to hit the fields. work would begin almost immediately once arriving at the fields. there we would separate into teams and go into the field pulling – more... tassels off of the corn until we reached the end of the row and would go back again through another row. Detasseling had taught me the importance of working together as a team to ensure the quality of our work by not doing a rushed job, and by helping other employees out when needed. The hardest part of the job was the harsh conditions of the weather in the field but it was bearable. the most enjoyable part was working alongside other employees in a friendly, hard working atmosphere. – less

Fast pace working environment
Pioneer Gardens Senior Living (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – April 9, 2013
Cons: no benefits and short lunches
A very fast pace working environment. I learned that customer service is very important while working with seniors. Management and co- workers worked together as a team. The hardest part of the job was to see a resident pass away. The most enjoyable part of the job was helping residents.

Not what I was hoping for
Marketing sales representative (Current Employee), Culver City, CA – February 26, 2013
This company is not at all what I thought it would be. I am a student and have no time to work their nine hour days and still attend school. I hardly make enough money to pay my rent between all the gas money I am spending in order to travel to the multiple stores they have us working at. I am very disappointed but am eager to begin a new job as soon – more... as possible. – less

Seasonal And Reasonable Job
Detasseler (Former Employee), Marshalltown, IA – January 7, 2013
Pros: we have about 15-20 minutes of lunch that we bring from our home.
Cons: the very hot days in the fields
A typical day in dettaseling is going to fields and taking the tassels off the corn plants, some days are very hot, and in the mornings fresh.

Ive learned how to take tassels off the plant, its very simple job, but hard when doing it for a lot of hours and and in very hot days.

The manager keeps things in order and does his job very well.

My co-workers – more... also do the same things that I do, some do there job, some dont.

The hardest part of the job is doing it in ver hot days and for many hours, somedays it could last for up to 12 hours.

The most enjoyable is that the job is symple to do, but hard when doing it for a long time. – less

Fun working place, meet new people everyday.
Detasseling (Former Employee), Rushville, IN – December 20, 2012
Pros: meet new people everyday.
Cons: long days out in the sun.
During a typical day at work, we stand on machines and detassile corn. Everyday you get to know someone knew you do not work with the same people everyday. You make new friends. I learned a lot of things like what hard work is all about. The management is amazing. The people you work with are different from one another. You work with many different – more... people. The hardest part is working long periods of time detassiling the corn its hard having to bend over the bar of the machine and detassile the little corn. The most enjoyable time is when you sit down for lunch with a lot of people you have no clue who they are and just have an ordinary conversation with them like you've known them your whole life. – less

A place to work and earn money
Detasseling Crew Leader (Former Employee), Rock Falls, IL – December 5, 2012
Pros: bonuses
Cons: no insurance
A very hot hard working place to be in the fields with long sleeve shirts. I learned that if you keep your mind to a specific task you can complete anything you want to complete. My manager was always understanding when I had a problem with a crew I was managing he never really questioned me on too much. My co-workers were always younger than me and – more... wanted to mess around since they were so young some of them were understanding that this is a work place not a place to get together and mess around. The hardest part of this specific job was the heat and the tall tassels of the corn trying to reach them when your so short. The best part of the job was just supervising making sure the other co-workers were following instructions and doing their part in the work place. – less
