Responsibilities include:

  • Administering group insurance benefits programs (including extended health, dental, Employee Assistance, Travel Assistance, life insurance, AD&D, optional life, LTD, etc) and retirement savings plans (including RPP and RRSP)
  • Enrolling employees and making changes; keeping information updated in all systems
  • Ensuring billings are accurate and the plan/s are set up accurately with the providers and payroll; reconciling as necessary
  • Coordinating leave-of-absences, arranging/tracking benefit premiums and following up on return to work
  • Managing benefits during leave of absences
  • Communicating plan features, changes, updates
  • Answering employee enquiries as necessary
  • Working with providers and other intermediaries (e.g. broker) as necessary
  • Tracking information and/or statistics as necessary
  • Continually striving to improve work processes, methods, environment, customer service, personal and team performance.
  • Working as part of the HR team as necessary
  • Other responsibilities, as required

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5 years related group insurance and retirement savings plan administration experience, including managing benefits during leave of absences
  • Knowledge of legal and/or payroll/taxation guidelines surrounding benefits and retirement savings for active and inactive members including taxable benefits, tax deductions, etc.
  • Previous experience administering disability benefits and leave of absences
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and focus on accuracy is imperative in this position
  • Good relationship building skills, both internally and externally
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team environment
  • University degree, or some post-secondary and additional related work experience
  • Benefits related courses or certifications and/or association memberships an asset
  • Payroll and/or compensation experience would be a definite asset

Salary: $40-45K
