Paper Excellence Canada, who acts as Head Office operations for its pulp and paper mills owned throughout Canada, is seeking the following candidate to join their team in the Richmond, B.C. office:





$140,000 per annum

Paper Excellence Group is a privately owned group of companies in the pulp and paper industry. In all its operations, Paper Excellence ensures best practices and maintains strong relationships with local and national governments, local communities, unions, non-government agencies and other stakeholders.

Our company is seeking a Chief Executive Officer, with extensive knowledge and experience in the Asian pulp and paper industry (the major export destination of the company’s products), to oversee the operations at our corporate head office in Richmond, BC.


 Education:
o Engineering Degree
o Extensive Management Experience and some formal training in Management practices.

 Experience:
o International experience in industrial environment
o An experience in pulp and paper manufacturing.
o Experience in dealing with executives
o Must have at minimum 25 years’ experience in the pulp and paper industry in a leadership position
o Union experience
o Must have at minimum 20 years’ experience working in the Asian Pulp and Paper Sector-our biggest market
o Extensive knowledge and work experience in the Asian Pulp and Paper Market
o At least 20 years’ experience in the management of pulp projects or mill sites which have large production capabilities of over 500,000 tonnes
o Must have extensive perquisite knowledge of Mill equipment including wood preparation plant, digesters, Brown Stock Washing/ Screening, bleach plant and pulp machine. bleached kraft pulp mill consisting of the wood preparation plant, RDH digesters, brown stock washers/cleaners/screens, 5-stage bleach plant, chemical plants and recaust/lime kiln/water treatment-effluent
o Business planning construction, organization development, training
o Significant and proven leadership skills developed through at least 20 years in a senior management role in the Pulp and Paper Industry
o At least 15 years’ experience working on site at a Pulp and Paper Mill.
o Expert knowledge of business operations, asset management, marketing, finance and business ;processes related to economic development activities;
o Proven ability to build effective relationships with external stakeholders and collaborative ventures with diverse constituents;
o Working knowledge of engagement with aboriginal communities ;
o The ability to foster a healthy organization culture, encourage teamwork and collaboration, inspire and motivate high performance and effectively resolve conflict;

 Communication:
o Excellent Oral Communication and strong interpersonal skills is a must, due to negotiation and coordination.
o Fluency in English and Mandarin is required.
o Qualified applicants will have very good interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, and leadership abilities.
o Ability to communicate and manage direct employees from various backgrounds and cultures.

 Knowledge:
o Extensive knowledge of business and entrepreneurship
o Knowledge of engineering, specifically in industrial engineering
o Familiar with common safety practices in the industrial field, such as lockouts, confined space entry, WHMIS, etc
o Financial acumen and common business practice knowledge required

 Implement the company's mission and strategic direction as conveyed through policies and concrete objectives which are met through the effective management of human, financial and material resources
 Select middle managers, directors or other executive staff; delegate the necessary authority to them to ensure productive and efficient working conditions.
 Represent the Company on behalf of the shareholders, in negotiations or other official functions.
 Responsible for the management and operation of several mill sites with a design capacity of more than 500,000 tons of pulp per year as well as the corporate head office designed to support the mills
 Allocate the Company’s material, human and financial resources to implement organizational policies and programs, establish financial and administrative controls; formulate and approve promotional campaigns; and approve overall human resources planning
 Oversee all department budgets, hiring practices and production
 Coordinate with mill trades personnel on the day-to-day operations of all mills as well as on large-scale projects
 Oversee the implementation and management of large-scale projects including several green power projects and power boiler shutdowns
 Hiring staff for the Corporate Head Office and hiring Management for the Mills
 Oversee general operation of the Head Office
 Ensure fiscally sound financial management of all Mills and of the Corporate Head Office
 Representing the interests of the shareholders
 Ensure that the head office provides sufficient administration and support to all Mills
 Work with mill operating personnel in the analysis of any operating and control problems
 Coordination of all departments at the head office: Sales, Legal, Procurement, Logistics, Business Enhancement, Maintenance, Fibre, Technical, and Human Resources
 Attend and coordinate weekly Management meetings at the head office, the monthly Quality Improvement Team meeting with all Mills, and other relevant meetings
 Remain familiar with both new and old mill mechanical equipment, controls and processes
 Administer projects for improvement of operations
 Involvement in employee training sessions
 Ensure a good working relationship with all mill employees and encourage good communication between levels
 Management and control of budget/production cost and ensuring process optimization
 Promote a team atmosphere, seek help, share ideas and make recommendations for improvements
 Develop, improve and implement continuous improvement processes with Mills
 Ability to manage up to 1000 direct employees
 Oversee plant commissioning and start up to management of operation
 Responsible for the overall management of the business including its overall strategic direction, preparation of agendas and background information for Board meetings and Executive Committee meetings
 Keep the shareholders fully informed of the conditions of the corporation and on all important factors influencing it
 The development of annual work plans, related capital and operating budgets, development of operational policies and procedures
 The day-to-day operations management, human resources recruitment and management and budget, financial oversight and monitoring
 Conducting market analysis and opportunity identification
 Overall planning, design and implementation of projects and programs within the corporation's mandate;
 Communications and marketing for the purpose of business development.

 Mental Demands:
o Ability to handle high pressure from internal clients/stakeholders/executives
o Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and good work ethics are among a few qualities which are considered for the candidate

 Working Conditions:
o Work in well-ventilated office
o Frequent travel to the Mill/production sites, and or out of town.
