The Assistant Maintenance Manager is a key member of the Maintenance Department responsible for providing for the comfort of guests by servicing and maintaining the Hotel building. This position requires supervision of all plant equipment, Maintenance Department staff and purchasing duties in extended absence of the Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Perform daily maintenance tasks in guest suites or assist in repairs on building equipment;
  • Locate and diagnose plumbing issues. Repair leaks, broken or frozen pipes, unplug drain lines and piping;
  • Install toilets, sinks, taps, and bathtubs;
  • Repair or replace existing electrical wiring, receptacles switches, light fixtures, and other electrical components;
  • Repair drywall, door locks, and ceiling tiles;
  • Communicates room status changes to the Guest Services and Housekeeping;
  • Departments in the event of damages or repairs requiring rooms to be out of service;
  • Attend to requests from guests requiring repairs or assistance in guest suites;
  • Attend to outside trades when Chief Engineer is absent;
  • Respond to emergency after-hours calls when Chief Engineer is on holidays;
  • Complete projects on schedule, benefiting the overall operation so that all departments can function to the best of their ability;
  • Take leadership role in completing tasks with the Maintenance Technicians;
  • Assist Chief Engineer on any major equipment repairs;
  • Provide training to staff as required;
  • Complete duties assigned by the Chief Engineer.

  • Possess high degree of knowledge with building equipment, design, and operation;
  • Able to attend to details and follow instructions;
  • Possess leadership skills;
  • Must have confidence in maintenance abilities;
  • Must be available for dayshifts, evening shifts and weekends
  • Must be accessible for on-call duties
  • Valid driver’s license an asset.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent preferred;
  • Valid 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate
  • Minimum 2 years experience in building operations with hotel like property an asset;
  • Previous customer service experience an asset;
