Position: Bookkeeper

Wage: $15/hour at 16-20 hours/week

The Company:
Over the Edge ( is a special events company that provides signature events for non-profit organizations anywhere in North America. Participants are invited to raise pledges in exchange for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of rappelling over the edge of a local building. Over the Edge operates events across North America that are administered from the HRM. As a young and growing company, we are searching for a Part Time Bookkeeper who embraces all this dynamic and often frenetic environment has to offer - constant change, a strong team spirit, the commitment to make a difference and the ability to be part of something bigger than themselves. Pending competencies of the successful candidate, there is an option for taking on responsibilities of a Part Time Event Manager.

Job Description:

  • Maintain records of financial transactions from source documentation to trial balance.
  • Post all Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable transactions.
  • Post, review and process all aspects of the Canadian and American payroll.
  • Post, review and reconcile all credit card transactions.
  • Reconcile petty cash.
  • Liaise with event staff and support them in bookkeeping needs.
  • Prepare and distribute financial reports and analysis as required.
  • Post receipts, process bank deposits and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Ensure all transactions are recorded in the correct ledger.
  • Compute, classify and record numerical data to keep accurate financial records.
  • Complete off-season and special projects as requested by Senior Management Team.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with any duties.

Event Manager

  • Primary point of contact for Non-Profit Client.
  • Facilitate 120-day Business Plan process.
  • Complete Event Manager worksheet with Non-Profit Client.
  • Schedule site visit for any first year sits by a Site Safety Supervisor after the Memorandum of Understanding has been signed.
  • Lead Event Planning process through 120, 75, 30, and 7 day meetings.
  • Provide support/resources for Non-Profit Client throughout the whole process via phone, Skype and/or email.
  • Collect any relevant and unique promotional/recruitment/sales tools associated with events and add to Best Practices.
  • Ensure any state permits, requirements for an event are met.
  • Work with Non-Profit client to recruit rope volunteers for each event.
  • Book staff hotel rooms for each event
  • Follow Event Management Checklist.
  • Attend weekly Event Managers’ meeting l reports and analysis as required.
  • Complete off-season and special projects as requested by Senior Management Team.
  • Any other duties as requested.


  • Educational and experience requirements should include a minimum of 2 year post-secondary diploma in business or relevant experience in bookkeeping.
  • Experience with Simply Accounting, Excel, Word and Outlook is considered an asset.
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organization skills are vital to the role.

Event Manager

  • Some experience with Event Management, project management or related vocation is considered an asset.
  • Outstanding verbal and business writing communication skills as well as strong presentation skills.
