Open Door Group is a non-profit organization that operates on the fundamental belief that all British Columbians have the ability to succeed. We provide employment and recreational programs within several BC communities to persons with disabilities, mental illness, addictions, multiple barriers and people who are unemployed. Our programs are built on strong community partnerships including working with program participants, community service providers, employers and business associations, and government.
We are looking for a Human Resources Advisor to join our leadership team, working on a full time temporary basis covering a maternity leave until September 2014.
Under the general direction of the CEO, the Advisor is responsible for providing leadership in all aspects of the planning, implementation and evaluation of a full range of Human Resource programs and services for Open Door Group.
Supports the implementation of Open Door Group's strategic goals.
Develops, implements, and evaluates short term and long range operational goals for Open Door's human resources
Develops, implements, and evaluates various human resource services and programs ensuring the effectiveness of their delivery.
Acts in a leadership capacity of promote and support the implementation of effective human resource management practices.
Provides leadership in the interpretation of, and advice on, the application of human resource policies and practices, collective agreement issues, related legislation such as the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code and Labour Relations Code, and a wide range of human resource issues to ensure consistent, fair and equitable administration.
Supports managers in handling grievance meetings and represents Open Door Group up to stage 3.
Assists Senior Management in preparing for, investigating, hearing and responding to grievances.
Represents Management at Union Labour Management and Health and Safety meetings and liaises with Open Door Group Directors and other exempt personnel.
Establish and maintain all HR and employee files and records.
Develops and monitors probation and annual evaluation schedule for all employees.
Supports Management team in delivering effective probation and annual evaluations.
Supports the development and implementation of a performance management system.
Develop and implement recruitment strategies for the organization.
Coordinate the advertisement for vacant positions, including composing or editing advertisement copy, confirming pricing, and finalizing ad placement.
Coordinate the full cycle recruitment process from the posting of a vacancy, to the awarding of a position and all relevant documentation trails.
Develop strategies to track and reduce employee turnover within Open Door Group.
Participate in the development of and organize the training/educational sessions under HR purview.
Attends Occupational Health and Safety meetings and other human resource related committee meetings, both within and outside of Open Door Group.
Ensure Health and Safety practices are being followed within the organization.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
4- 5 years relevant and recent human resources experience including labour relations and recruitment / retention within a unionized environment.
Relevant Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Business Administrator, or equivilent.
CHRP Designation an asset
Experience interpreting collective agreements.
Working knowledge of employment legislation such as: Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Workers Compensation Act, and Personal Information Protection Act.
