The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) administers and enforces securities law in the province of Ontario. The Communications and Public Affairs Branch plays an integral role in promoting the OSC’s reputation as an effective and responsive securities regulator. Branch staff assists organization leaders by providing strategic communications advice. Communications is responsible for media relations, executive speeches, publications, internal communications, stakeholder engagement and the OSC website.

Reporting to the Manager, Stakeholder Communications, the Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for contributing to and delivering on the OSC’s digital strategy and a variety of existing and emerging digital communications vehicles including the website, video and audio technology, digital outreach tools and social media. The work related to the website will primarily focus on its overall appearance, organization, content access and display, maintenance and consistency of the publishing process and how a visitor navigates the OSC’s main website and related websites.

In addition, the Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for using their digital knowledge to continuously enhance the end-user experience for both internal and external audiences. Through required consultation with staff spanning all branches, the Digital Communications Specialist applies a customer-centric focus and team approach to all duties and responsibilities.

Key duties and responsibilities will be to optimize the end-user experience through innovation and accessible web design and development solutions while taking into account diverse stakeholder needs and user trends. This will be accomplished by overseeing the maintenance, production and publication of digital communications in compliance with established standards, policies and legal obligations. The role will liaise closely with key internal partners and maintain multiple third-party supplier day-to-day relationships in support of the team’s activities. It will engage in ongoing development through research and best practices, and consult with internal clients on both technical and non-technical standards, processes and advice on recommended solutions.

As the ideal candidate, you offer related work experience in digital communications combined with a completed two-year college diploma from a web design and development or equivalent program. You possess effective written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and have strong organizational skills with an ability to manage competing priorities effectively and meet deadlines. Core competencies also include demonstrated experience, at an advanced level, working with Content Management Systems, Windows Server 2008, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0+ (RHEL), Dreamweaver, Photoshop, MS Office, Acrobat Professional, Web Analytics, Search Engine Optimization, screen readers, web browsers, OS platforms and designing and publishing for various devices, audio and video media. Proficiency at an advanced level using latest web and programming standards for Web Accessibility (WCAG 2.0), Usability, HTML, CSS, XML, XSL, JavaScript, C# and Java is also required. Additional highly favourable qualifications include working knowledge and an understanding of French and graphic design along with related experience in the capital markets, financial services sector and/or a regulatory environment.
