Reporting to the Director of PIC Engineering
The candidate will work closely with the PIC design team investigating the performance of various components on the PIC, including lasers, detectors and power monitors. This will involve analysis of standard test data, additional custom testing as needed and root cause analysis of new performance and reliability issues as they arise.
An important aspect of this job will be the development of new tests to further the understanding of the fundamental operation of the devices and relating that to design and process variations. PIC-specific test capabilities will need to be enhanced or developed as needed (including software interfaces) and, once mature, transferred to the test & measurement group. He or she will work independently to characterize the PIC and then work with the design team on implementing improvements.
The candidate will need a good fundamental understanding of the device physics, particularly in the area of semiconductor laser operation. Hands-on optoelectronic device test experience, including test development and software interfaces is also an asset. He or she should have demonstrated an ability to work independently, but also have good communications skills and be able to work within a team.
A PhD in physics, electrical engineering or similar, with at least 5 to 10 years experience, is required.
