Reporting to the Process Engineering Team Lead

Responsibilities

The candidate will be primarily responsible for optimizing, testing and documenting the processes involved in the optical assembly of active, PIC-based, fibre-coupled components.

This includes, but is not limited to, developing or improving optical train alignment methods, developing and testing processes to increase productivity, selecting and testing the appropriate adhesives, helping with the design of fixtures and assisting in qualification and reliability programs.

The candidate will also contribute to the transfer of the current and future processes to our local and contract manufacturing teams by providing direct technical support to their engineers and ensuring that the proper documentation is in place.

The candidate will be part of the Process Engineering team, working closely with the Mechanical Design, Transceiver Design, Product Reliability, and Manufacturing teams. The candidate will also be involved in specifying and procuring the necessary parts and liaising with external vendors.

Skills/Qualifications/Education

The candidate should have experience in the development of optoelectronic devices, in particular with the precision alignment of multiple components. Hands-on experience with adhesives and curing techniques is also required. Operating knowledge of the various measurement instruments that would be used as part of the development exercise, such as lasers and multimeters, is highly desirable.

A capability to develop processes suitable for mass-manufacturing of final product is essential for this challenging opportunity: exposure to automated processes (such as pick-and-place machines, adhesive dispensers) would therefore be considered an asset. The candidate will also have good communication skills, have experience holding and contributing to design reviews, and have experience working with external suppliers to provide quality work within tight timelines.

A B.Sc., B.Appl.Sc., B.Eng. or higher degree in Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline, along with 5-7 years experience, or relevant training with 10 years experience is required.
