PURPOSE:

Supervises the accounts receivable, fixed asset, inventory and maintenance work order functions of the Finance Department. Responsible for all general accounting and statutory reporting functions (except payroll.) Additional responsibilities include implementation of accounting controls, government and regulatory reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates the activities of accounts receivable, fixed asset, and inventory to ensure staff is

organized and properly trained, and that all required activities are carried out properly;

  • Responsible for reviewing and approving credit applications, and coordination of collections;
  • Responsible for general ledger maintenance and reconciliations, handling of all inquiries

regarding account coding, and general ledger entries;

  • Prepares and coordinates all reporting and payments in compliance with government regulations

and requirements (e.g. GST, U.S., Excise, NWT and NU Petro Tax, etc.);

  • Coordinates and ensures monthly reconciliation's of all general ledger accounts are prepared,

reviewed, and filed on a timely basis;

  • Monitors the Company's obligations under contractual agreements to ensure all payments are

made on a timely basis (e.g. loans, leases, etc.)

  • Provides assistance to the Controller related to month-end, quarter end and year-end reporting,

budget preparation, and preparation of special analyses and reports as required.

  • Ensures all accounting information and related records are kept in an effective and organized

manner and in compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements;

  • Maintains and completes confidentiality with respect to all documents handled and any other

information obtained directly or indirectly with regards to financial or other business affairs of the
Company;

  • Encourages and promotes a cooperative work environment, both within the Finance Department

and the Company as a whole, by positively supporting other employees in the performance of
their duties and performing all responsibilities in a cooperative and helpful manner;

  • Provides a superior level of customer service to all internal and external customers;
  • Continually reviews and appraises all areas of responsibility and bring forward recommendations

for improvement; and,

  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Accounting
  • Minimum of 2 years accounting related experience
  • Experience in office procedures and practices using a computerized accounting system

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  • Knowledge of credit and collection practices and procedures
  • Basic knowledge of all relevant corporate and personal tax legislation
  • Ability to work with other people and motivate them within a team environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting applications
  • Ability to converse fluently in oral and written English
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and

external agencies
