Job purpose
The Health and Safety Coordinator develops, administers, and implements Company wide occupational safety programs, and serves as the coordinator for the occupational safety programs within one or more divisions and/or departments. The Health and Safety Coordinator plans, designs, develops, implements, and evaluates departmental occupational safety programs.
Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide support to requirements as instructed by the Occupational Health and Safety Manager
  • Perform additional assignments per site superintendent direction (i.e. tool box talks)
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance of workers and sub-trades under the following:

o Occupational Health and Safety Act/Regulations
o Site specific Health and Safety Policies/Procedures

  • Prepare daily reports of the site inspections along with weekly summary reports with providing to the required personnel, as determined
  • Conduct investigation on items that may arise, as follows:

o Accident/Incident, Spills and Near Misses

  • Follow-up and ensure assigned action items are completed as determined
  • Participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) for Company Construction
  • Accompany City, Owner and/or Ministry of Labour (MOL) official during an inspection in regards to site safety
  • Conduct site specific orientation (including Environmental Awareness Training Program) training for new workers with ensuring training records are maintained at the site and up to date
  • Prepare on weekly basis Site Plan Map, outlining storage areas, parking, emergency/first aid locations and hoarding
  • Ensure all trades are completing daily pre-shift inspections and job hazard Assessments
  • Monitor with Tracking any items provided for submittals (completed and needed)
  • Maintain at site, Form 1000’s Binder along with the trades H&S Policies/Procedures, Job Hazard Analysis, Daily Checklists (Operator’s, Traffic Control/Spotter, Public Safety, Environmental Log) and up-to-date certificates as required for job tasks
  • Ensure completion of weekly and monthly site inspection reports from Supers/Foreman with any deficiencies with action/corrected
  • Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs
  • Man-power hours are being completed by Project Coordinator, Safety Coordinator will require to advise trend analysis information on a monthly basis to Project Coordinator
  • JHSC Meetings are to be conducted monthly and meeting minutes to be submitted within one-week to Occupational Health and Safety Manager, with copies to Project Coordinator Assistant for submission to Owner, Superintendent and Project Managers
  • Final MOL Reports to be submitted to Occupational Health and Safety Manager, with copies to Project Coordinator Assistant for submission to Owner, Superintendent and Project Managers
  • Submit within 24-hours any incident/accident reports to Occupational Health and Safety Manager, with copies to Project Coordinator Assistant for submission to Owner, Superintendent and Project Managers


  • Previous Health and Safety work experience, construction related industry would be considered an asset
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience in dealing with MOL
  • Effective communication, presentation and written skills
  • Strong analytical, technical and Organizational skills
  • Certified through WSIB/Ontario as a member Joint Health and Safety Committee, preference will be given to hazard training in Construction, is considered an asset
  • Certifications in Fall Protection or Working from Heights, WHMIS and First Aid with CPR/AED, is considered an asset

Working conditions
Construction site conditions:

  • Require to wear CSA approved safety boots, hard hat, safety vest/shirt as the minimum PPE. Additional PPE maybe required as per company policy and task performing (i.e. fall protection, ear plugs/muffs, safety glasses/eye/faceware)
  • Working hours are typically based on a 40-hour work week, on occasional events work hours maybe longer or shorter and may involve weekend attendance
  • Work is often required to be outdoors (i.e. walking through job site, including various construction levels/grades, near high traffic and public areas)
