CORE FUNCTION

Provide passionate confident leadership that lets everyone know goals will be achieved.

To be responsible for the organization, co-ordination and management of the entire store, while maintaining a strong communication link with immediate supervisor.

Within the limits of approved programs, policies and procedures has these responsibilities:

FINANCE CONTROL

  • Assume direct responsibility for all cash handled.
  • Compile an annual budget for the store in consultation with the immediate supervisor.
  • Scrutinize all operating statements for the store in order to ensure efficient operations and to initiate immediate remedial action where necessary.
  • Accountable for following the Company policy regarding accounts receivable.
  • Responsible for proper transferring and mark-down records as per Company policy.
  • Exercise direct supervisory control over all front end cashier related functions, ensuring sales are properly departmentalized.
  • Responsible for the taking of accurate inventories as directed, complying with proper classification.
  • Ensure all invoices are checked for cost, extension and are charged to the proper department, and Company procedures are followed in respect to purchase orders.

MERCHANDISING

  • To develop and coordinate, on a weekly basis, an in-store merchandising plan around TGP marketing programs including; Weekly Flyer, Seasonal Ads, Super Saver, Private label and Every Day Best Value, which will maximize both sales and gross margins.
  • Ensure that each department obtains all advertising material which will be required in accordance with the advertising programs.
  • Responsible for seeing that all ordering schedules are followed and that inventory control programs to satisfy customer requirements are firmly in place keeping in mind such areas as the right merchandise, at the right price, at the right time, in the right place and in the right quantity.
  • Responsible for pricing merchandise in all departments in accordance with Company philosophies regarding competitive pricing.
  • Monitor departments to ensure they initiate sale of slow moving merchandise and/or discontinue slow-moving and obsolete lines.
  • Responsible for ensuring the proper receiving and warehousing procedures are in effect in all departments.
  • Supervise and initiate attractive balanced displays of quality merchandise, maintaining counter efficiency and sales per square foot.

PERSONNEL

  • Ensure respectful code of conduct is followed by all employees.
  • Administer the personnel matters under their jurisdiction which involves:
  • Ensuring that all Company policies regarding personnel are enforced;
  • Handling all staff grievances within the store, referring cases to his/her supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Hiring, motivating, promoting, demoting or discharging staff in conjunction with the supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Collaborating with his/her supervisor in the administration of personnel policies for his/her employees in regard to such items as salary, hours of work, overtime, promotions etc., and to promote good management employee relations.
  • Responsible for ensuring on-the-job instruction and training of staff in all departments is carried out on an on-going basis.
  • Develop a subordinate in managerial duties to relieve when necessary.
  • Keep abreast of modern techniques in the field of retail operations by maintaining trade contacts, by the study of technical literature and by other appropriate means.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • Ensure respectful code of conduct is followed by all employees.
  • Take specific measures in order to minimize, rectify and satisfy customer complaints.
  • Actively engage in programs aimed at promoting:
  • good customer relations;
  • increasing sales volume;
  • continually strive to improve store friendliness and customer service.
  • Ensure the practice of safety regulations by staff members and customers and promote the elimination of hazardous conditions.
  • Ensure minimum requirements are met for having staff available with proper First Aid training.

GENERAL

To be responsible for security of property and buildings.

Responsible for the maintenance of all equipment and premises. Recommend major maintenance repairs and expense items to the immediate supervisor.

Attend or schedule such special and general meetings as required which may include:

Weekly department manager/supervisor meetings;
General staff meetings;
Special promotion staff meetings;
Departmental staff meetings
TGP sponsored seminars and functions.

Responsible for proper housekeeping in the store.

Ensures all departments comply with applicable government standards.

Assume Office/Scanning duties and responsibilities as required.

To be alert for all unauthorized removal of merchandise and/or pilferage of money or property and to observe proper security measures.
