Wanted: Junior Software Developer

Department: Software Development – Production

About the position:

The Junior Software Developer will be an integral member of Nerd Corps small, fast-paced software development team. The Junior Software Developer will strive to provide support to our various production teams in an efficient and effective manner. The Junior Software Developer will learn more about the 3D Animation production pipeline as well as develop various web-based applications from design through to maintenance.

The successful candidate for this entry level position is proactive and possesses a broad knowledge of modern web technologies and will be involved in building complex, reliable tools using a web interface.

Responsibilities and duties:

Developing and maintaining in-house client/server web-based tracking systems and various production pipeline tools.
Assisting the Software team to oversee issues with the render farm.
Liaising with production staff to implement new tools and processes to aid their needs.
Inventing, analyzing, optimizing algorithms or data structures to improve our current systems.
Helping to define the user model and user interface for new and existing production tools.

Qualifications and experience:

B.Sc in Computing Science or equivalent experience.
Good working knowledge of web-based technologies including PHP, JavaScript, JQuery, VBScript, AJAX/JSON and HTML/CSS.
Solid foundation with software development methodologies, client/server paradigm and object-oriented paradigms.
Strong SQL skills and knowledge of relational database design. Experience with MySQL is preferred.
Must be able to write clean and maintainable code.
Ability to take direction well and execute on a project with limited supervision.
Quick learner with excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills.

The following skills are not essential but, would be a great asset:

User Interface design experience.
Knowledge of C++ or Java.
Background in computer graphics to help understand the production work performed at Nerd Corps.
Knowledge of 3D Animation tools such as Autodesk Softimage or Maya.
