Company Description: A fast growing natural and holistic pet food company who is a leader in nutritious raw frozen diet, kibble, can, and treats for dogs and cats. Brands include Instinct®, Prairie®, and Sweetspots™.

Position Summary: To continually increase distribution and sales of Nature’s Variety products. Need to meet or exceed territory objectives in retail sales by growing existing accounts and opening new accounts which includes working with distributor representatives, training store employees, complying with the territory budget, and contributing to the overall success of Nature’s Variety.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Grow existing Nature’s Variety accounts

o Visit retail stores and identify focus accounts
o Develop relationships with store personnel
o Create and implement sales promotions
o Train store employees in nutrition and selling of the products
o Increase sku placement and shelf space
o Place and maintain Pont of Purchase Materials
o Update and maintain retailer log on site
o Implement and encourage usage of various reward programs

  • Open New Accounts

o Research and identify potential new stores
o Educate potential new accounts regarding the unique features of Nature’s Variety
o Place product

  • Assisting distributor representatives

o Act as a resource to the distributor reps
o Do periodic ride-alongs

  • Manage demonstration program

o Identify and work with stores who will benefit from a demo program
o Hire and train demonstrators
o Monitor the ROI of the demonstration program at each site to determine continuation or improvements

  • Other major activities

o Continually update and report RSM on budgetary activities
o Maintain CRM reporting system
o Complete and submit reports as required
o Staff local shows and events
o Other duties as assigned

Skills and Technical Expertise:

  • Traditional sales skills with closing experience
  • Highly developed project management skills
  • Basic understanding of accounting and financial statements
  • Knowledge of, or aptitude for learning about, basic animal nutrition
  • Ability to become a product expert
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Microsoft Project

Preferred Experience

  • Pet industry knowledge and/or experience
  • 2+ years of sales or retail service experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Training and motivating
  • Budget creation and tracking

Travel Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation
  • 80% of work week is field work
  • 50% of each month includes overnight travel

Compensation: Competitive compensation package including base salary, monthly commission potential, and quarterly bonus potential. Other benefits include health & dental insurance, holiday pay, company paid life & AD&D insurance, flex spending, paid vacation, and 401k.
