Although I was only there a short time, I found my co-op experience at Nalco to be a positive one. I had the opportunity to work with important material and felt that I really helped the Project Manager to get ahead in his work.

Good place to work. The people are very friendly and care about one another. But the work/life balance can be a bit difficult to adjust due to the work demand.

Work is long days an average of 12 hours per day and hectic. You must be ready to get used to smelly checicals all day out in the oil field teating oil wells. the management is employee oriented yet very diciplened and tough. most co workers were not happy they are inexperinced and there only for the pay which is very good for a truck driver working – more... five days a week. The best part of the work is you get to be in the great outdoors of New Mexico. The worst part of the job is bad weather days in the winter and some summer days. Chaining up a truck hard and heavy work in mud and snow. Very good bebefits. – less

Management was always helpful, informed, and respectful.

I was the department secretary for the head of Purchasing for 6 years and then the head of Credit and Accounts Receivable for 6 years.

I handled incoming phone calls, travel arrangements, appointment calendars for the management staff, took dictation by shorthand, did the correspoindence and – more... other clerical needs of the staff members.

I liked the ability to help everyone get the job done. The hardest part of the job was handling some of the personalities in the department. – less

Nalco is a great company with a lot of opportunities in the water treatment field.

A typical day consists of going to scheduled appointments with current customers for testing and basic field work. It can also include overhauling a new customers system and doing a full install of Nalco's system and product. There are also sales meetings with prospective new customers. It can be a good environment if you enjoy the city and don't have – more... a long commute as your work days in your first few years will vary in length and you have a considerable amount of take home work. – less

I was a temp for three months at Nalco. They seemed to do things well

A typical day at Nalco is easy going but hard work. I learned to stay focused alot of prioritizing. I also obtained excellent detail oriented skills. My co-workers were great. The best part of this job was the people. The hardest part was being laid off.

In a typical day at work, I would fill containers for shipment according to customer orders. I would help to load drumlines with required drums for orders. (Plastic or steel drums)
I learned what different hazard codes meant and the proper protection equipment for filling containers.
Management, for the most part, was helpful, but in some cases, employee – more... and safety problems were not addressed until something bad had happened.
My co-workers were easy to get along with and were helpful.
The hardest part of the job was putting on a chemical suit on hot days to fill containers. This had to be done, though, to protect me from harm.

I have worked in the Tax Department for 10 years, and I love the work and the team. The corporate experience is so much different than a small law office from which I came and for whom I worked most of my career. I am able to use more of my skills in the corporate environment, and I love a challenge.

My future is strong, days filled with dynamic supply chain challenges. Opportunities associated with a steady growth in energy services - product allocation, capacity analysis, long term production scheduling, supply chain analysis, cost analysis, etc. I love everything about supply chain - from inception to customer delivery, the project executions, – more... process improvements, and the interdepartmental interactions. Management is supportive and offers plenty of praise, however, we have 3 of my 5 positions open in our department associated with employee attrition complicated with departmental growth, leaving me as the manager taking on 3 simultaneously different roles for over the 6 months so that our internal customers don't get impacted. This has left me stressed, and working nearly 60 hours a week. My Work/Life balance has been out of proportion for too long. The challenge we phase with hiring replacements is the market. Nalco is known for as secure company to work for with low salaries. So combine the time I put in, the outlook of no new hires, and a low salary, I am hoping to find a better fit for me. I've addressed my concerns with management who have expressed concern, but openly admit, they are not going to offer salary increases and they are unable to gaurantee head count to support the work load. I love supply chain, I love the hard work, but at somepoint, there needs to be a balance - and I don't have this now. As a star employee, representing all supply chain, I am the first person other departments go to for support, so in this intance, working harder and being the best employee I can be, has only overwhelmed me and made consider exploring other opportunities. – less
