The Resort Municipality of Whistler is a one-of-a-kind community and was recognized this year as the number one mount and ski resort destination in North America. It has a thriving four-season festivals and events calendar, and is rapidly becoming a centre for cultural tourism. Whistler was the Host Mountain Resort for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Financially sound and responsive to an engaged mayor and council, this is a high performance municipal organization serving a community that hosts more than two million visitors each year. As an economic generator of over one billion dollars annually, Whistler is key to British Columbia's tourism economy. As General Manager of an organization recognized as one of BC's top employers, you will report to the Chief ADministrative Officer and lead the Corporate and Community Services Division, which includes legislative, bylaw, fire rescue, financial, information technology, and recreation services, as well as RCMP and the Whistler Public Library. You will also take a lead role in working with a wide range of partners to promote the economic viability of the resort community.
As the ideal candidate, you have a bachelor degree in Business, Public Administration, Economics, Political Science or a related discipline, a graduate degree in one of these fields will be considered an asset and seven to ten years of related work experience gained in a leadership and strategic capacity. You are an experienced senior leader who has had responsibility for providing effective leadership to high performing, multi-function teams. You are innovative, engaging and have a proven track record in leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
You bring exceptional interpersonal, communication and strategic planning skills as well as the ability to inspire confidence in others and build/maintain effective relationships with partners. Collaboration and partnership are defining characteristics of this position. You have a passion for what Whistler has to offer its visitors and residents as well as the dedication to ensure that Whistler continues to be recognized on an international stage as a year round resort destination.
