Dealership Interior Designer

Overview:

The Employee will provide design service to dealership clients, including site / inventory verifications, programming, space planning, typical development, color boards, working / installation drawings, specifications, and site-to-plan review. Works closely with dealership sales, order entry, and installation groups, as well as clients, to ensure accurate plans and specifications, conformance to client’s requirements, customer satisfaction, and high quality project implementation. Actively seek out sales-opportunities; calls upon clients, buyers, designers, architects, suppliers, competitors, among others; ultimately providing profitable office furniture sales and service contracts.

Responsibilities:

Design Process
o Listen, understand, and document the client’s needs, make knowledgeable recommendations regarding furniture selection and placement, and respond to client’s needs for education and information
o Attends client planning meetings or receives information via Sales Representatives notes and check lists; reviews and defines scope of work related to new projects; may present plans and information to client for review and approval
o Reviews site; conducts field measurements and plan-to-site adherence checks
o Inventories existing product; produces as-built drawings and specifications
o Conducts in-depth programming and needs analysis; interviews clients / end users, researches workplace requirements, analyzes space / furniture needs
o Develops and present block and space plans; gains client approval
o Develops and presents color / finish boards and selections; gains client approval
o Develops finished working drawings for specification and installation; validates plans against construction (As Built), electrical engineering and A+D drawing sets; gains client approval
o Develops product specifications; double-checks specifications against plans; gets specification order-entry ready, ensures sales sign off with client is complete
o Manages changes and revisions
o Conducts field and punch-list review with project managers and / or installation team

Departmental Practices
o Estimates design project time; maintains detailed time sheets; manages actual time again project estimates

o Prepare detailed furniture specifications and quotations (including cost, price, and profitability calculations), make sales presentations, respond to large and complex tender proposals, and negotiate contract terms that are profitable for Monk Office Interiors and Healthcare and acceptable to the client
o Assists in the writing and presentation of design proposals and contracts to clients
o Accurately and efficiently prepare sales and purchase orders, and provide assistance to suppliers and administration staff as required
o Maintains detailed and extensive project documentation, including records of all key decisions, phone conversations, approvals and sign-offs, and notes from all project planning meetings
o Manages adherence to project schedule, internal dealership budget, client’s project budget, design task completions and quality of design work
o Communicates regularly to client and dealership re: design project status
o Does plotting, printing, color boards, etc. for client and dealership transmittals

Coordination / Planning
o Coordinates phone, data, and computer network planning interface with electrician, customer’s IT group / personnel and outside cabling vendors
o Conducts pre-installation meetings with installation group / leads; collects and transmits installation / project work order information to order entry and operations team
o Ensures complete and accurate transmittal of project planning data to order entry / management, project management, and installation groups

Organizational Interfaces
o Conducts responsible interfaces with: client, contractor, and subcontractor trades, client’s A+D firm, electrician, client’s IT group, etc.
o Conducts responsible interfaces with: dealership sales, project management, customer service / project coordinator and operations / installation teams
o Maintain the highest standards of professional, ethical, and respectful conduct, develop client relationships and provide exceptional customer service

Commercial Furniture / Design Industry Knowledge
o Has strong knowledge of interior design field and current practices
o Understands workplace environment issues and trends (ergonomics, technology integration, teaming, etc.)
o Has a working knowledge of the dealership’s commercial furniture lines, including features / benefits, pricing, application, and assembly
o Has a working knowledge of applicable building codes, ADA regulations, National Electrical Code, LEED, etc.
o Understands commercial furniture processes, including order preparation, project management, order management, delivery / installation, change order management, and deficiency resolution.
