At Millward Brown, your work becomes your life! I had the fortunate opportunity of starting at Millward Brown just before the economic downturn, and slowly witness the changing environment of the supplier side of marketing. With layoffs, you were forced to absorb the workload and the mantra was that "you are lucky to still have a job." The concept of – more... "team effort" became nonexistent and it was every man for him/herself!

However, I will say that being able to put Millward Brown as a former employer on my resume does stand out when you're job hunting on the client side. So overall, while your personal life slowly deteriorates, the experience you gain is worth it in the end. – less

Cons: low/no ethics shown by senior management/very political
I worked here for a few years and was finally able to get out. Salary increases and bonuses are only for upper management. Staff, managers, and non-directors are expected to work year-over-year without an increase in salary. As employees leave, the work is shuffled out to the remaining staff, but the salary is not. Millward Brown is one of the best places I've worked. The company is highly successful, has excellent senior management team in particular - the CEO, President, CFO, head of the office and HR in Fairfield are really smart, thoughtful and incredibly hard working. Always willing to roll up their sleeves and work WITH you to get the best answers for the – more... clients and employees. Sometime I wish people would just stop complaining and just do the work. The complaining can be really tiring and I don't know why they don't just go and find another job if they don't like the company.

The company does ask people to work hard but wake up - it's 2012. Unemployment is at at an all time high and ALL companies are asking people to work hard or even do the job that two people used to do. My whole family has worked incredibly hard and I don't think that Millward Brown asks any more of its people than any other company.

I would like to get paid more but who wouldn't?

Pros: lots of exposure to the industry, work with well known brand and agencies and the benefits are suitable.
Cons: no work life balance, younger employees have little chance for advance as they are stuck with menial tasks.
Account managers, Directors and VP have a good understanding of the business and what it takes to develop actionable market research. However, upper-management is too far removed from the overly complex internal study process development. MB is highly political and does not value or foster the career growth of their employees.

-The salaries are very low compared to other marker research agencies, due to the fact that they have very high overhead.
-Part of the reason overhead is so high, is because there is a lot of waste in terms of spending from upper management.
-Office politics are – more... stifling, if you aren't tight with the right people it is difficult if not impossible to move up
-Nepotism is a alive and well at MB
-Office-wide communications are inconsistent, distorted, patronizing, or nonexistent.
-Some senior people are willing to cross ethical lines if it suits them. Generally involving lying or misrepresentation in order to protect themselves, at the expense of someone junior to them.
-A lot of people have been leaving lately and MB has not rehired anyone to take there place, causing an excessive amount of work for the Foundation staff.
-MB prides themselves on Work/Life Balance; however the Junior staff is expected to work 50+ hours without being compensated accordingly (they only pay you for 37.5 hrs). Also, if you work below the 'desired' number of hours, upper management will keep piling on additional projects forcing you to work overtime.
-No merit increases or spot bonuses in the past 2 years
-Gossiping is a daily occurrence within the office – less

Expect to work at least 50 hours a week if you are on some of the bigger accounts. The benefits are excellent but the roller coasters of work and stress will definitely take a tole on you if you don't make sure you are getting enough of a life outside of work.

Millward Brown is a great company to have on your resume and get exposed to basic market research. Its no surprise that they are at a downward spiral because much of their work is templated and there is so much emphasis on being perfect that creates a stressful environment.

Unfortunately, they have promoted young managers from years ago w/ no mgt experience – more... and jaded from being given so much grunt work that they too have become master delegators.

MB can definitely turn themselves around if they trusted their team members more, giving more responsiblities and created process improvements and get w/ the times by eliminating paperwork and creating digital processes.

They have a great onboarding process and you should take excellent notes because that will be the best learning experience.

Expect to work ridiculous hours because that is what is expected of everyone especially if you go in as an entry level employee.

Negotiate salary & perks and dont back down even though HR will tell you "sometimes in your career you need to take a step down to move ahead" total BOGUS! – less

Allows for exposure to many different types of research methodologies. Also affords the opportunity to work with a plethora of client products (from beer to chocolate to cars to pharmaceuticals).

At MB, you get the chance to work on a project from beginning to end, from developing the questionnaire and working with sample providers to analyzing the – more... results and providing actionable insights to the client.

The people are very friendly and helpful. MB also makes it a point to get employees involved in fun and charitable activities outside of the normal day to day work.

However, the pay rate is lower than that of similar marketing firms, and the hours can be long and demanding. It can also be a bit challenging to move up the ranks once a middle management position is reached. – less

Cons: collusion at the top, extreme micro-management, non-competitive salaries.
The company was a good place with decent morale until the finance officer came on a little over two years ago. Her purpose is to destroy the company and morale at all costs. If you do not agree with her, you are out. I am a long term employee and she is the worst example of a high level executive seen to date. Hired because of her "relationships", her – more... lack of confidence is displayed by verbal attacks on staff, extreme micro-management (to the lowest level) and the "do it my way or you're out" tactic. Collusion between the finance officer and her bosses (CEOs) prevents positive change for this company. Don't waste time interviewing here.
