LOCATION: HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA START DATE: JANUARY 2013 OVERVIEW: As Halifax’s longest serving fashion destination, Mills is looking for a Buyer with a strong knowledge of current fashion and trends who will play a central role in its plans for continued growth. Working as part of the retail team and reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will employ a customer-centered approach to enhance brand offerings to achieve Mills’ financial objectives. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Product selection, including regular buying trips to major trade shows and vendor showrooms, negotiating buying terms with vendors and identifying new buying opportunities
Establishing and maintaining vendor relationships
Managing budget and buying cycle, including preparation of analytical reports to monitor sales and inventory performance
Working with and as part of the sales team as required to gain knowledge of customer preferences, merchandise products on sales floor and share product knowledge
Maintaining accurate files and records of all buying and vendor material and data
Conducting market research to keep abreast of fashion and merchandising trends
Working with the General Manager and marketing team to develop and coordinate social media plan (including store website, facebook and twitter), advertising and marketing events
Other duties as assigned by the General Manager
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Minimum 5 years buying experience
Post-secondary education in fashion merchandising, business or a related field (a combination of education, training and experience will be considered)
Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with others
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, and ability to analyze reports
Computer literacy (Excel, MS Office Suite or Mac)
Superior organizational and time management skills, and detail oriented
A professional, responsive and positive work attitude is essential
Must hold a valid passport and be available for travel
COMPENSATION:
Commensurate with experience
