Great Training Program
Client Services Representative (Former Employee), Phoenix, AZMay 6, 2014
Pros: great training, great hours
Cons: would not sponsor my series 7 license, low pay, limited opportunity for growth
This was my start in the financial services industry. By far the best part of working at MFS was its three week training program. Not having any experience in the industry, this training still benefits me today. I started out as a contractor and was offered full time employment. After that time, I was also offered additional training for Retirment Services – more... and accounts. This training was also top notch. The only draw back to this position was the limited opportunities for growth. MFS would not sponsor me to get the Series 7. This and the relatively low compensation were the primary reasons I eventually left. – less

Good learning Experience
Intern/IT Dept (Former Employee), Boston, MAFebruary 6, 2014
Created user guides and worked with IT to make online access fully functional. Assisted with any other needs of departments.

Learned how to utilize my computer experience and add to it.

Co-workers were very polite and helpful, particularly for me being an intern.

Hardest part was that occasionally there was not enough work. An 8 hour day for an intern – more... can seem long when there is nothing to do.

Most enjoyable was the location and learning more about a topic I prior had no knowledge. Also I enjoy technology so the computer work was interesting to me. – less

Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Desktop Design & Publishing Project Leader (Current Employee), Boston, MADecember 1, 2013
Pros: jeans day on fridays
Cons: too much managing up and not enough advocacy for the teams below
Great people and great benefits with a big focus on the work/life balance. I cherish the relationships I have made here over the years and appreciate the team-oriented environment that is fostered. One of the biggest challenges continues to be to trying to manage and meet the increasing production deadlines with limited resources available. Overall, – more... MFS is a great company where I feel I could flourish further in my career if opportunities were to be presented however I seem to have hit my maximum tenure here and without any new or exciting options to pursue, I am now taking my search outside of the firm. – less

Very productive, and great place to work
MFS Accountant (Current Employee), Birmingham, AL,July 16, 2013
Making deposits, processing refunds, reconciling vendors invoices, and scheduling payment of invoices.THe management in my area is excellent, always willing to ssist and teach. I have learned better management skills, also the best way to approach this is to inform and educate. My hardest part of the job is when computer systems go down and I am unable – more... to work. The most enjobable is completing the task set before me and learning other aspects of my job. – less

Processing Representative II (Former Employee), Boston, MAMay 25, 2012
Pros: free tea and crackers, cheap coffee.
Cons: no breaks, can't go to work late a minute.
The company provides very good benefit. The health insurance premium is very low and under a good plan including dental. The bonus and rate give employees every year. The DCP distributes quarterly. 98% of my managers and 100% of my co-workers are very nice. However, most of my managers' professional knowledge are poor. Sometimes they can't help me right – more... away. Some of my co-workers are not honest. They choose the easy work and walk around. I have to work very hard to keep my standard of productivity and quality. The handwriting on some new account applications is very hard to read. – less

Great company, bad attitude.
Customer Service Rep (Former Employee), Quincy MaMay 21, 2012
Pros: benefits, experience, history.
Cons: work life balance of zero.
Although a great mutual fund company to work for, they leave a lot to be desired in their treatment of employee's. They interviewed me at the Boylston St Address. Told me I was hired, and that the customer service department was moving to Quincy the next day. This was NOT a distance I would have found acceptable prior to being offered the job. I was – more... desperate, so accepted the position. Only then did I find out their draconian polices on attendance. No leniency was given to employee's who had to take the Red Line. Through no fault of our own were were routinely late, the red line regularly broke down with us on it... MFS was NOT understanding about this.

This was 2008-2009. Perhaps they have come to understand that they are no longer located in the center of Boston. If they have realized this, then they are a fine company to work for. If they have yet to realize this, pass on the offer. – less

Pros: never to busy but never to slow.
Cons: dont really have any
MFS was a pretty cool place to work at. I had my own cubicle which included a desk, a computer, and my own phone line. I stayed busy for the majority of the day!

Proactive sales environment with good work life balance
Senior Sales Representative (Current Employee), Boston, MANovember 16, 2011
Pros: great company history and culture
Cons: not much growth potential
It has been a great experience to work for MFS but sometimes good things need to come to an end. There is not much upside potential in my department. Everyone is settled in their positions as Wholesalers and managers with plenty of seniority/vesting in the company. This means, if I want to grow I will need to leave MFS. Sad, but that's the way it goes.

Bos2NYC – August 10, 2012

I can't say too many bad things about this company...Diversity is a big issue with minorities not only women which is an improvement but also very few "Black Men" in management...The company has a huge population of "Italian & Irish " men and women a like with friends and family almost like the "Boston Fire Department" if you know the history of Boston...otherwise this company has great benefits but if your an minority working for this company stay strong one day you might be that person working management.
