A typical day would be spent in the office working on calculations to optimizing the process. Management was missing and the co-workers were not welcoming. On the other hand there was a small group of people who were interactive and enjoyable.

Would not recommend Columbia, SC division - dead end

Pros: good 401k and benefits
Cons: poor leadership, bad management, extremely inefficient
I would not recommend working for this company locally. As a whole Metso has some great ideas and products they are well known for worldwide...however the local mining and construction team is made up of poor leaders. Training is non existent and meetings to inform team members of completing work and preparing them for success never happens. Everyone – more... is on different versions of software and the IT department fails to keep up to speed. Many people are hired as temp workers to fill a need only to be released later. Metso of Columbia is stuck in their ways that have proved time and time to not meet the companies long-term goals or benefit their employees. There are few positives...the office is quiet and they have excellent 401k matching and profit sharing as well as health benefits. If you desire to work for them avoid the Columbia division but be prepared be part of a process that is extremely inefficient and no one willing to listen to anyone's ideas regardless of how beneficial. Lots of broken promises. – less

i cannot recommed ever working a metso, it has gotten way to big for it britches, i worked and the warrenton mo plant for 21 years , when an irational hr person and the no idea what he was doing ceo decided i need to write a letter as to why the company shopuld keep me as my points were high, oh they said a short letter would do but they lied i got fired and oh yea did i metion the so called union that to this day over 2 years now has never told me the results of my greivance, well if u want a temp job make so so money no benefits and fired after 60 days go ahead i wont stop ya

Pros: great mentors, terrific opportunities for advancement, global company who promotes international assignments
Cons: non-performers stick out like a sore thumb because eveyone else is so dedicated and hard working.
If you want to be surrounded with incredibly talented, smart, hard working, dedicated employees Metso is the place for you. I have only been with Metso for a few years now, but I am impressed by the dedication of my fellow colleagues. And I am constantly amazed at the tenure of my co-workers. It's not unusual to talk to an employee who has been here – more... 30-40 years!!!! Now that says something about Metso!!!!!!! – less

Cons: sometimes long hours, sometimes too bureaucratic
Very empowering place to work.....you can take on as much as you can handle to make things better. In general, managment is always willing to listen to sound ideas with substance.
