Mad Science is a great place to start
Intructor (Current Employee), Coquitlam, BCJune 5, 2013
Pros: good pay, mileage compensation, great supervisor
Cons: not enough hours per week
Being an instructor at mad science has allowed me to explore my capabilities as an instructor for younger children. I worked independently for each class which last one hour and it gave me a lot of control over the structure of each class. The hardest part of the job is traveling to different schools everyday and having to locate them since they are – more... sometimes outside of my neighbourhood. The most enjoyable part of this job is getting to work with children and making science enjoyable and interesting for them. – less

Very flexible and rewarding job
Summer Camp Instructor (Former Employee), Austin, TXAugust 25, 2014
Pros: flexible hours
Cons: lots of driving
A typical day at work is teaching a classroom full of students science in an interactive hands-on way. Good experience for people pursuing jobs in education. The hardest part of the job is managing students' misbehavior.

a fun and energetic work place.
Instructor (Former Employee), Houston, TXJune 17, 2014
Pros: pay for gas if its 20 miles away from the office. they also will pay you if the class gets cancled
Cons: not that many hrs.
A typical day would start with finding out what classes you are going to teach for the week and if you havnt already then you would train on them. Once you have trained you need to take a quiz and ask questions on what you didnt understand. Once you are done with that you get the materials you would need for the week so you have everything you need – more... to teach the class. Evenone is very helpful and willing to help. – less

I work with a very flexible schedule due to my schooling hours. They are more than happy to work with me on my schedule. The management is fantastic. All of my co-workers are very friendly and love to do what they do. The hardest part of the job is dealing with some difficult children when teaching. Poor compensation, pretty sure they're exploiting working moms
Instructor (Current Employee), FremontMay 20, 2014
Pros: teaching the classes is incredibly fun (if you like kids), nice co-workers
Cons: poor pay, bad hours, poor management
My husband got a great job and we had to move for it - so I took this job right away as something to do while I looked for new employment. My experience so far is that teaching kids is really fun, although my superiors who are doing the training have said a few things that aren't scientifically accurate (which is weird). Also, the pay is terrible, when – more... you do the math about how much time you spend driving (especially in a high traffic area) my compensation is at best 10.00/hour. Some days it's been as awesome as 5-6.00/hour! I live in California...this is not enough. I have been given miss information on several occasions about the schedule and other important things, and I'm pretty sure they exploit working moms by selling flexibility and then shafting them in the way of pay. Plus when they hired me they told me I would be working 'full time' which turned out to be about 4 hours a week of paid work - plus 4 hours of sitting in traffic for each one of those paid hours. They do compensate mileage but only in excess of 30 miles...which is not enough to cover gas when you're sitting in stop and go traffic for that long, let alone my time. Basically, every week I think "I should quit" at least one time. And even though I have already given them a termination date, it's just not soon enough. – less

Teaching science to children
Science instructor for elementary (Former Employee), San Diego, CAApril 25, 2014
This job required teaching an hour at one school usually once a day. Then going to a classroom and setting up science topics and teaching the children about science then conducing a project for the children and allowing them to take it home. The hardest part of this job is not knowing the children very long because you are always going to different – more... schools and the sessions are not long. The most enjoyable part of the job is having the kids make the science project and become extremely excited about it. – less

Productive and Fun Workplace Focused on Educating Children in an Exciting Way
Supervisor (Former Employee), Winston-Salem, NCNovember 20, 2013
A typical day at work would include me driving to an elementary school, setting up or helping others set up their lessons, calling attendance, ensuring everyone was where they needed to be, taught or supervised other instructors lessons, packed or helped pack up, return materials back to the office.

My co-workers were always a lot of fun and were always – more... excited about their jobs.

The most enjoyable part of the job was teaching children science in a fun manner. Their enthusiasm and excited was always wonderful. – less

Fun work place
Science Presenter (Former Employee), PrestonMay 28, 2013
Pros: flexible with availability to work
Cons: it is just a part time job
Mad Science's moto is to 'Spark Imaginative Learning' and that's exactly what were trained to do. Not only has it been a confidence booster for me but also also have learnt many skills that I am able to take with me no matter where I go next. The best part of the job is that even if your having a terrible day, going to work and presenting in-front of – more... an audience of excited children can boost you back up again. Finally management and co-workers are very approachable and friendly. – less
