On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for a Human Resources Advisor to join their team for a one year term.

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resource Services, the Human Resource Advisor is responsible for working collaboratively with their customer groups to provide consultative human resources guidance and advice on strategic and operational business effectiveness.

The Human Resources Advisor will focus on issues of strategic importance to support the line management customer groups by fully understanding the overall business climate, the organizations strategic direction, plans and goals, as well as the corresponding human resource implications for maximizing organizational effectiveness. The Human Resources Advisor may also lead or participate in corporate projects providing human resource expertise.

By understanding the key issues and opportunities of the organization, the Human Resources Advisor works collaboratively with the customer group on identifying their needs and resolving issues. Develops and aligns HR strategies, processes and practices to meet the needs of the business and support customer group business plans. Collaboratively works with customer groups in developing and influencing changes to divisional strategies while maintaining a focus on customer service delivery. As the first point of contact for a designated customer group, the Human Resources Advisor provides collaborative, consultative HR guidance and advice in all facets of HR, working collaboratively with HR Specialists, as required, including:

Employment, recruitment and selection:

  • Ensuring that budget and approval authority requirements are met
  • Identifying staffing options for management
  • Sourcing and screening potential applicants and participating on interview panels
  • Advising and providing consultation services on selection process
  • Ensuring clients are aware of collective agreement compliance
  • Return to work programs, workplace accommodations, redeployments and employee career counseling
  • Diversity initiatives and programs

Employee and labour relations:

  • Performance management
  • Employee discipline
  • Collective agreement interpretation


  • Wage and salary administration
  • Assisting in the development of new or changed position description forms
  • Reviewing job descriptions for accuracy
  • Advising client groups regarding job evaluation and review processes which may include conducting on-site job audits

Other HR functional areas, including advocating and applying

  • Respectful workplace policies and wellness programs
  • Benefits and payroll administration
  • Relevant HR legislation, corporate policies, guidelines and practices
  • Develop and deliver related training programs and present at employee orientation sessions
  • Participate in special HR related projects as required


  • Undergraduate degree in a related area of study
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is a definite asset
  • A minimum of five years of related human resources experience in a variety of HR disciplines
  • Ability to build positive working relationships and provide customer service with a strategic focus
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and extensive generalist human resources experience
  • Strong knowledge of best practice employment practices and human resources legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple urgent tasks and deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Training, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Working knowledge of applicable office software and HRIS systems
  • Experience supporting and consulting with IT client groups is a definite asset
  • Working knowledge of job evaluation, salary analysis, labour and employee relations, HR employment legislation, staffing and recruitment processes, employment benefits and performance management
