This will be a contract position (contingent on funding from year to year) The bookkeeper contributes to the efficient day-to-day operations of the Lyackson First Nation finance department and will be responsible for providing support to, and be accountable to the Director of Operations. Main duties associated with the position include:
Assist with budget preparations
Maintain ledgers
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
Prepare Financial statements and reports
Summary budget reports provided on a monthly and quarterly basis
Calculate, prepare and issue bills, invoices and account statements
Accounts Payable and Receivable
Using computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and others as required (specifically but not exclusive to - Simply Accounting, Microsoft Office programs, Outlook)
Data Entry and upkeep of the organization's databases
Filing maintenance as required
Completion of Secondary School
Knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles
Minimum 5 years responsible accounting, or bookkeeping experience including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reports.
Proven skills including developing, implementing and monitoring financial systems, controls, policies, and best practices while ensuring compliance with all regulators and funding agencies.
Strong organizational and administrative skills as well as experience managing multiple projects and time sensitive deadlines
Previous knowledge and experience working with First Nations' governments and communities would be an asset.
Must be able to maintain strict rules of confidentiality and be loyal to the office of Lyackson
The bookkeeper is a contract position required to work an average of 17 hours per week. There would be an expectation of longer hours through busy periods such as audits and year end and possible occasional evenings
