About Long & McQuade Musical Instruments

Jack Long was a professional trumpet player who, in 1956, thought that maybe he could sell instruments to some of his friends in the musical community. He set up a small store on Carleton Street in Toronto on the second floor of an old house and became a dealer for King Band Instruments. The floor was divided up into music studios so Jack was also able – more...

How many of you still have your first guitar? This one is mine - an @epiphone S-310 Strat copy. Complete with a hockey stick headstock that you can't see in this photo. I also upgraded it with a Dave Murray loaded pickguard from @seymourduncanpickups . It has a neat story behind it too.
I remember asking my dad for a guitar as a teenager. When my parents agreed I talked to the music teacher at school and he sent me down to the downtown Toronto @longandmcquade on Bloor Street, and told me to ask for a gentleman named Bob. My dad and I wandered around the store and I was so excited that I would finally get my own guitar. Bob was super nice and not once did he make me feel like a girl shouldn't have an electric guitar. That was uncommon, even in the early 1990's. I looked at some of the Les Paul's and thought that maybe someday I'd be able to buy one, but for that day, I chose this sunburst Strat because my dad said I should choose a cool one - "this one looks like a hot rod", was his comment. So Bob grabbed it off the wall so I could try it out, and I was thrilled.
Fast forward a few years later, and I walked back into the same store with my saved up money to buy myself a sapphire blue Les Paul. Bob was there once again and happily saw me off with my new instrument, complete with some swag like picks, etc.
Decades later, after battling depression & anxiety, I decided to get back into music through my blog venture into guitar shops once again. By this time, I had a career, a husband and child, and not as much time to play guitar every single day. But I distinctly remember walking back into Long and McQuade after all those years of having put my passion on the back burner, and it felt like home. I didn't know anyone that worked there anymore, but when I want to dream or need inspiration, I pay the store a special visit, & I still remember how Bob helped me and my dad. That's my Long & McQuade story, and that's also why this guitar is still one of my favourites even though I now have 13 of them to call my own.

The future looks bright for this little one. The staff at L&M had been very accommodating of us yesterday, that it was cool for Hero to play with this $4,000 guitar on display. To more trips to @longandmcquade! ❤🤘🏼
