The London Centre of Hope Family Health Team is currently looking for a talented and caring person to join our team. We are funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and our team includes Physicians, a Psychiatrist, a Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurses, an RPN, Social Workers, and Administrative supports. We work together to provide primary healthcare to men, women and children who are under-serviced and have barriers (including homelessness, mental health issues and poverty) related to accessing healthcare. Our clinic is currently situated in the Salvation Army Centre of Hope located at Wellington and Horton. We are seeking a Billing Clerk who will also provide support to our Medical Receptionist.

Billing Clerk / Support to Medical Receptionist

This position will require someone with strong skills and experience administering OHIP billings. Ideally, you also have experience in medical reception. As we grow over the coming months, we will be rostering many new patients. You will have primary responsibility to coordinate and administer this process. The following will be your responsibilities:

  • Monitor the billing system for accuracy and effectiveness and, in consultation with the Administrator, problem-solve system gaps; reconcile monthly billings, submitting reports to MOH by a predetermined monthly due date
  • Review and, if necessary, reconcile the monthly Physician RA
  • Develop and maintain the Billing Practice Manual
  • Identify, recommend, and facilitate suggestions for change to improve billing practices within the scope of the your responsibility
  • Maintain patient rosters, roster validation, outside use reports and re-enrolment as directed by the MOH on a monthly basis
  • Bill and send in all patient enrolment forms on a regular basis
  • Call all patients to remind them of appointments 24-48 hours in advance of their appointment
  • Scan all required medical documents into patient electronic medical records
  • Support the medical receptionist, as required, to welcome and meet the needs of patients at reception, complete phone calls, schedule patient appointments, and in other ways provide a positive patient experience.
  • Perform all medical receptionist duties in the absence of the medical receptionist
  • Identify, source, and participate in professional development opportunities that will enhance skills and increase your ability to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the London Centre of Hope Family Health Team
  • Review and adhere to all London Centre of Hope policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in team meetings and ad hoc committees as required
  • Be willing to work outside regularly scheduled clinic hours of 8:00-4:00, Monday to Friday.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and experience with, OHIP billing codes, reconciliations, physician RAs and other elements of the billing system
  • 2-5 years OHIP billing experience in a family practice setting, preferably a Family Health Team
  • Certification of Health Care Office Assistant or Medical Office Assistant an asset
  • Efficient and well organized
  • Exercising exceptional care and caution in protecting confidential and sensitive information of clients, their families, personnel and the organization
  • Ability to establish priorities and maintain productivity despite numerous interruptions
