Friendly co-workers and excellent worker/management relations
Hot Deli Clerk (Former Employee), Cambridge, ON – June 8, 2013
Pros: ample hours, positive staff, flexible work schedule
Cons: managers are not always able to properly discipline workers or go unaware of some incidents
Loblaws: Zehrs Markets was a great place to work and I enjoyed my many years of service with them. The staff was always a plus and the flexibility the job offered is bar none.
Produce Clerk (Former Employee), Bayers lake Nova scotia – June 2, 2013
The job started out pretty good. I found that my experience at loblaws began to go down hill when our management changed and the group dynamic of the department started going down hill. It was soon after this changed that i decided it was not the company for me.
Produce Clerk (Current Employee), Guelph, ON – May 30, 2013
Pros: variety of jobs so always busy, never a dull moment
Cons: management, long hours
My typical day at work is organize the counters and put out stock, help out customers and do the odd job for the department. Usually working nights I put away stock and organize the cooler and back room before receiving the shipment. What I learned is how to be efficient, and how to work hard from how busy it gets on weekends. My co-workers are great, – more... you could say my entire department is just a big group of friends, which makes working enjoyable while doing my job. The hardest and only hard part of the job would be management. My old produce manager was great (until he was forced to leave under certain circumstances), but the store managers are horrible to me. There's a lot of miscommunication so personally I feel like I'm being harassed, I don't think a worker should be grieving at work because a certain manager or two is working. Even overall the managers are just rude and childish, it's not professional at all. This is the number one and only reason I would not suggest this job, it seems like they discriminate against the kids working there or just any minority at best. – less
Deli Clerk (Former Employee), Saint-Laurent, QC – May 30, 2013
Pros: great colleagues
Cons: minimal hours
A typical day at work involved getting the deli ready at 8am. After mixing the salads, I'd start preparing the fried foods and the chicken. Total preparation took about 3 hours, after which the lunch-rush would begin. After which there were very little clients. Though I was told by my manager and colleague that I was very productive and a quick learner, – more... I was let go due to hour cuts and summer's coming which led to less customers. I enjoyed working with my main colleague, and my manager was very enjoyable to work for. The hardest part of my job was finding things to do between 2 and 5, due to little to no customers. – less
Stocking Shelves (Former Employee), Windsor, ON – May 13, 2013
Pros: gym membership discounts. benefits & life insurance available.
Cons: night shifts were long and you spend the whole next day sleeping, not doing much of anything else.
Our supervisors were lazy and chauvinistic. They gave orders haphazardly. One night it was do something this way, then the next night you'd do it that way and get yelled at. Our tell you to go down one aisle then show up at the end of the aisle and yell down the aisle that this wasn't where they sent you. It would be a great place to work if they got – more... rid of the Midnight Supervisor's and brought in professionals who could act their age. Comments could be overheard regarding wanting to see younger women working there. – less
Cashier (Former Employee), Mississauga, Ontario – May 7, 2013
As a cashier, the job could become stressful and hectic, but the employees were always friendly and professional. Management were also very nice and professional. I learned how to deal with customer service, fast-paced cashier work, and was required to memorize many grocery codes. The most difficult aspect of the job was on statutory holidays when the – more... grocery stores are quite busy. – less
EMPLOYEE (Current Employee), SOMEWHERE. ON – April 27, 2013
LOBLAWS IS A HORRIBLE PLACE TO WORK. THEY ARE SCREWING WITH PEOPLES LIVES. CUTTING WAGES AND BENEFITS IS ONLY GOING TO HURT THE COMPANY. TICKED OFF EMPLOYEES = POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHICH IN TURN THE COMPANY WILL LOSE CUSTOMERS. WHAT THE HELL DOES THE COMPANY THINK THEY ARE DOING AND HOW ARE THEY GETTING AWAY WITH THIS?? DO NOT SHOP AT THIS COMPANY, – more... DO NOT ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO WORK FOR THIS COMPANY, IT WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE!!!!! – less
Meat Clerk (Former Employee), Ottawa, ON – March 29, 2013
Pros: stress free, have friends working their, relaxed management, lots of space to move around in
Cons: could get a little boring at times
Working at Loblaws as a meat clerk is as average job a person will get. Management is not bad but it is not great either. Because it is the local super market odds are a couple friends you know work there also and it is fun to sync up your breaks with them. The work itself is semi-fun because you are doing several repetitive tasks that get changed throughout – more... the day to not make go into zombie mode (where you just zone out and become mindless). For example, you will start by facing the meat, then packaging the meat, then facing the meat again, help a customer or two, label the meat, take out the expired meat from the shelves and at the end of the day, take all the meat from the counter and put it in the fridge. – less
Front End Cashier (Former Employee), Toronto, ON – March 12, 2013
I was a front end cashier within this establishment. I had to learn multiple produce codes, and ensure customer satisfaction. The most enjoyable part of the job would be ensuring customers have a pleasant shopping atmosphere, to me that is what I went to work for everyday.
Shelf Packer (Former Employee), ajax,on – March 5, 2013
Pros: good people
A typical day would normally be jus packing shelves and cleaning up unnecessary products from ailes. I learned how to manage time better. Co-workers were friendly and outgoing. There was nothing really to complain about in terms of management and workspace, Brake time was the most enjoyable part of the job.
Cashier (Current Employee), Bowmanville, ON – March 4, 2013
Pros: great people, amazing customers, good hours
Cons: union dues
Loblaws is a great to work at, guaranteed at least 4 hours a week, great co workers, and many great customers! Most enjoyable part of the job is working with everyone, and being able to interact with all of the customers! Hardest part of the job is probably bagging because alot of people are picky with what goes in each bag, but I'm not afraid about – more... asking so it's not very hard at all! I have great managers, and supervisers that make work fun and alot less stressful than I thought it was going to be! – less
Customer service and sales clerk (Former Employee), Ottawa On – February 24, 2013
Pros: 2 breaks and a lunch. 10% discount on items after 6 month working with loblaws.
Cons: incrediably low pay. new union is taking over and as far as i'm told, everybody thats been there for 10+ years are having major salary cut. 5$ an hour cut is expected.
Sometimes its 2 people closing 3 departments. Pay is maybe 5 cents extra after 1 year. 3 years in and 15 cents pay increase. Good customer service experience. Coworkers all communicate and try to enjoy time at work.
