The Optician will work in conjunction with the Managing Optician to provide customer service and may be required to complete some or all of the following tasks, as deemed appropriate by the Managing Optician:

• Approach & greet customers
• Be aware of general product information
• Assist clients within the provincial guidelines for Opticianry in your province
• Enter information as required into MVE and the Front Cash register
• Order and receive product as required
• Maintain paperwork
• Maintain department cleanliness standards
• Maintain all Optical product in the store including that which is cross merchandised in other departments (i.e. Joe Fresh, HABA, Action Alley)
• Perform pre-testing for eye exams or sight tests, if applicable
• Complete credit returns & paperwork
• Follow opening & closing procedures
• Book contact lens and eye exam or sight test appointments, if required
• Maintenance of the Frame Grid
• Edging & assembly of eyeglasses
• Take ownership in promoting products as deemed by Head Office
• Creating & promoting in-store marketing initiatives in conjunction with the Managing Optician
• Serve as the “go-to” person when the Optician is not available
• Completion of the WSR
• Perform sight tests, if applicable in the province of employ
• Take measurements for eyeglasses & contact lenses
• Fit eyeglasses & contact lenses (as licensed in the province of employ)
• Adjust & repair eyeglasses
• Dispense eyeglasses & contact lenses (as per provincial regulations)
• Fit, adjust & dispense safety and specialty eyewear
• Responsible for department when the Manager is not available

Qualifications:

• Has Optical retail and cash register experience
• Enrolled in the Provincial Opticianry program in the province of employ OR has worked in the Optical Industry for a minimum of three (3) years
• Fluent in English
• Entry level computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook
• Outgoing – comfortable approaching people & engaging customers
• Professional looking – presentable
• Organized
• Pays attention to detail
• Can work independently
• Willing to work in a team environment
• Takes initiative – self-starter
• Expected to be flexible & work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends (retail hours)
