caregiver (Current Employee), Calgary,AlbertaFebruary 9, 2013
Pros: free meal
Cons: short breaks
With my present employer i usually start 6 am to 9 pm,Its a very tiring Job but i like it,I Love chidren. The Hardest part of it is carrying a 5 year old boy with Quadro plegia cerebral palsy. I Enjoyed and proud seeing them showing respect to other people aside from their family members.Being a caregiver i think is a emotional Job as you will teach – more... to decipline the children but you have to follow a certain rules imposed by their parents. My 12 years experience,I learned alot, how to cope certain role for nurturing children. – less

Working 15 hrs. a day is unreasonable and probably illegal; not to mention care for a disabled child. I hope this is not 7 days a week! Doesn't employment standards require that you get 11 consecutive hours free from work between shifts? I am Canadian and for the first time, am considering a live in caregiver position. This is not very encouraging and I hope it is not the norm for live in caregivers.
