The Edmonton Legal Services Centre of Legal Aid Alberta is currently seeking to fill several full time permanent Legal Services Officer positions.

Job Description
This position is responsible to assess and provide services to individuals who have criminal, family, civil and/or immigration issues. The Legal Services Officer (LSO) is responsible for managing client matters from the assessment of the clients’ legal needs at the initial point of contact through to the delivery of appropriate legal services. The client assessments are conducted primarily by phone. Legal Aid provides limited in-person services at specific courthouses and the Legal Aid Office. The LSO is expected to take a positive and constructive approach to client services that are focused on providing assistance and enabling problem solving for our clients in a consistent manner.

The successful candidate will possess a post secondary degree/diploma in law, social work or other social sciences.

Experience interacting, interviewing and providing services to people who are facing time sensitive personal challenges is essential. Excellent communication skills and an ability to build rapport and convey empathy is required. The successful candidate will have the capacity to remain calm and effective during challenging situations. They will be non-judgmental and sensitive to diverse values and beliefs. Proficiency with databases and various computer applications is required.

A valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle are assets as vehicle & travel may be required. Testing of computer and typing proficiency may be required. Successful candidates must meet security clearance at hospitals, institutions, correctional facilities and courthouse and for Department of Justice databases.

Starting salary - $3753/month
