Another day, another blue-collar dollar. Staffing firm TrueBlue specializes in providing general laborers on short notice for short-term jobs in fields such as construction, hospitality, landscaping, and transportation. The company offers general labor staffing services from more than 700 branches throughout the US and Canada, mostly under the Labor Ready brand. Other units, operating through branches, include Spartan Staffing (light industrial temporary services), CLP Resources (skilled construction trades), and Centerline Drivers (temporary and dedicated driver placement). TrueBlue mainly serves companies residing in the services, construction, transportation, manufacturing, retail, and wholesale sectors.
The company changed its name from Labor Ready to TrueBlue in late 2007 to emphasize the blue-collar nature of its staffing services. TrueBlue continues to use the Labor Ready as its primary brand along with its other units.
As the economy has slowly improved, TrueBlue has experienced rises in revenues and net income. Revenue increased to about $1.3 billion for 2011 (a nearly 15% increase compared to 2010). The company reported revenue of about $1 billion in 2009 and $1.15 billion in 2010.
TrueBlue has used acquisitions to diversify its mix of services, particularly in the light industrial and skilled labor staffing sectors. In 2008 the company made a pair of purchases: TLC Services Group, a truck-driver staffing company with operations in 10 states; and Personnel Management (PMI), which provided staffing services in the light industrial sector. In February 2009, TrueBlue folded PMI's operations and 44 offices into its Spartan Staffing unit. – less
